  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

thanx for update. Nice

That looks excellent. What was done to keep the light so under control? Was there a lot of fill lighting? Bouncing? Only Natural Light? Exposure on this makes the Red fufill all of it's potential promises :)

Thanks for the kind words.

The outdoor stuff was all natural light. We used a gold bounce on some of the trampoline shots. We were shooting with heavy ND a lot of the time (i wish I had known about the IR issues at that time). The clouds were killing us because of our cramped shotlist and I had to ride the exposure quite a bit. There is more info in the sky in some of the shots that appear blown out in the video do to grading decisions/encoding etc.

Some of the shots did have some info lost in the highlights do to rapid changes in light midtake with no chance to reshoot or just trying to get a little more shadow detail. Personally blowing out highlights if they are out of focus doesn't bother me too much, but I still try and avoid it. A couple of the 2k shots ending up being a little noisier than I would have liked.

For the interior shots we used a 4 bank Kino and a gelled Arri 150 I believe, but most of it was natural light only.

The stuff with the band playing was all in our studio with tungsten lighting (which I would avoid if I had to do it again).

This was the shoot where we really put the camera through its paces and learned a lot because we had room to experiment.

Well you did a really freaking good job...much better than most people who say they are testing the camera on the shoot only to come back with over saturated poorly exposed video-looking footage. Nice work!
