  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New MoVI

I ordered a Movi M15 recieiving it on August 4th, 2016. At the time of purchasing I did ask whether an upgrade was imminent and was told no. Inside of 2 months the Movi pro was released. Without an upgrade program, I feel a bit cheated. My 3 month old investment is now worth probably half of what it was a month before. Yes its a tool I can continue to use, but it certainly helps to remain current, and had I known the Pro was coming, I would have waited. I am all into innovation, so I am not about not releasing the Pro, as aspects of the M15 sorely needed an upgrade. I just think Freefly could look after their existing customers better... Maybe I am spoiled by the way Red 'leave no camera behind'. I have contacted Freefly about the possibility of an upgrade program for young movi's. Chris Harrison at Freefly support responded a week later and said " with the very small amount of feedback we have already received on the matter, in regards to a trade in program, and review the situation for future product releases."
If any of you are dissatisfied with this situation , please contact Freefly Support and let them know you want an upgrade. Who knows, with enough dissatisfied 'new' pre-Movi Pro owners, maybe they will decide to offer an upgrade program.

I feel for you Tom.

We all go through that with computers and camera gear.

Its too bad they dont mfg like automobiles :)

We know when they are coming out with a new model every year.

Heck computers are the same but sometimes waiting is not worth it.

Or can you tweak the setting to give enough stiffness on Pan to get close to a wip pan?

Guys generally wip pans are a no no with any gimbal even the more expensive ones. Gimbals arent made for this. However if you want to wip you can instead of trying to pan around COG to just pan fast around your body with center as an example your feet. That will not throw the pan motor to react, as it will mostly be a side to side big circular move on which the pan motor will not react against you. Its pretty easy very effective and you can hardly tell the difference.
Im always talking about hand held operation of cource , and not mounting any gimbal on a steadicam sled . For hand held its easy effective and it works.
If you add so much stiffness to the motor it will vibrate like hell , not sure if you wanna do that.
regards

I've asked the day of the movi pro release as my movi was not even two months old when the movi pro was released. Pretty much got the "sorry, it's like this with tech. We will explore the option and will let you know if anything changes." So highly unlikely. :/

I'd love them to come up with a solution to temporarily get into a more reactive mode that would allow more "whip pan" like moves. Something like a little button under your thumb that you could press to get into that mode (that would recall a more reactive majestic setting, with super low pan window and smoothing), and once you release the button (or press it again), you would get back into the previous pan settings.
Thinking further, having the ability to switch between 2 different settings while shooting might be handy in some situations, might be interesting to explore that !

Ordered the Movi Pro btw, can't wait to try it out ;)

I will have mine this wednesday, wasn't expect so early from my local french dealer so really happy with that.

I am looking everywhere to buy the cable to power the Epic via dtap but no stock. With my Ronin, I used this cable DJI Ronin Part42 RED Power Cable (Ronin/Ronin-M), I don't have it anymore but maybe one of you guys use it without any trouble ? I am looking for this solution before to buy the Movi cable when the stock will be ok.

thanks !
