  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Movcam Epic gear

No worries mate thanks in advance for any update.

Spend most of the day revising my hand held rig and cobbling something together that is a definite contender for http://http://shittyrigs.com/

Multicoloured zip-ties play a large part. Hurry up Movcam, before I have to use this thing publicly!

funny enough, most top plates will work with the new fans. Ironically REDs needed an update.

I got an update from Movcam on the front new fans and they say its compatible. She also said these parts for the new V2 kit are available now. I still kind find them anywhere except for the baseplate and top plate. I've asked for more info. Stay tuned.

I have attached the product codes.

Thank you very much Bob for your research . But i still find something weird . When you look at the epic on the schema, you can easily see that the front fan is the V1 version . So are there the same problems with 15 mm rod supports as for the viewfactor ones ?On the same topic , we can see that the back of the top plate is closed as for the Red V1 tactical which make the plate unusable. I know the viewfactor and wooden cam plates and they are both opened from the back. I would like to buy and check but it is a litle bit expensive ..

Yes I see but they are aware of the front fan issue as Jason Wingrove mentions it in this video https://vimeo.com/80040349. The email I have for Movcam is (Lucy) lucy4lucy@gmail.com
Feel free to send her your questions and concerns. Send any info back to this thread!

BTW, this is what BHPhoto has and doesn't have:

B&H carries
Movcam 3031302 Epic Top Plate
Movcam 3031303 LWS Base Plate
Movcam 3031706 LWS Dovetail Plate
Movcam 2060003-6 12" 15 mm rods

B&H does not carry
Movcam 3031306 Handle Kit for Epic
Movcam 3031305 Rosete Shoulder Pad
Movcam 3060209 Battery Bracket (for 15mm rods)

They're going to ask the supplier when they can get the rest.

Hello folks !

I just had a few informations by Lucy from Movcam.

These were my questions :

1 - Does the top mount #3031302 allow to install the new V2 red top Fan ? In others companies the back of the top plate is opened so it lets the space for the new fan . It seems not to be the case for your plate . Could we have any pictures or technic specifications on the providers web site ? There is a real lack of communication about your really beautiful products , many people are hesitating because of that .

2 - Does the bottom plate # 3031303 allow us to install the new V2 front fan ? In a video of the australian company " Dragon Image " it seems to be installed but once again we have to be sure . i'm sure you understand because for example before i had a Viewfactor plate and everything worked but not the front 15 mm red support .

3 - Does the dovetail rail is an Arri standard ?

4 - How long will we be waiting for the rosette shoulder pad at B&H or 16x9 inc ?

5 - Finally , Is there a chance to find a european reseller which will have these products soon ?

6 - We can see on the sides of your plates that there are holes . It is the same technic for other companies but i never saw on the providers' websites a side arm or side handle or as red products " tactical ribs " which allows the use of sliding accessories . So can we use side handles from others companies ? Are the distances between the top hole and bottom hole the same as wooden camera products for example ?

Answers from Lucy :

1.2. According to our friend here the top plate works fine with the fan. But still the engineers are trying to make minor modifications to improve our rig so that it can work better with the upgarded V2 fan. We expect to finish this modification after our Chinese New Year holiday.

3. We plan to have a new universal dovetail plate so that it can be compatible with Arri.

4. We'll ask our distributor in the US and see if they have rosette shoulder pad in stock. We have this item in small stock.

5. In Europe, we have dealers in Germany, Bandpro Munich, the UK, CVP, France Broadcastor, Switzerland dedotec, etc. You could try them and see if anyone has this in stock.

6. Yes, we have side handles. But we are not sure if the distance between the holes are the same like other companies.

And now .. we know ! Enjoy !

Thanks Ben

If you can't wait , there is a similar solution from ebay :
