  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ive been using my the new MacBook Pro for 2 days now. While running premier pro with my external monitor the system crashed while doing a lumitri color adjustment and froze the screen in a graphics glitch. I took a video of it before I had to hold down the power to restart the system. Computer seems fine HOWEVER my external monitor (LG 34UM95 running through tb2 with the - apple tb3 to tbc usb adapter) is now F*^ked. Cant really record what it looks like to the naked eye But it looks exactly how some screens look when you point a camera at them and can see the MHz in the cameras monitor. Its like the refresh rate can be seen.

is it possible for this new port to send a power spike to external devices? are my other devices at risk?

Thunderbolt can transmit power unless you're using an optical TB cable. I'm not so sure I'd be that quick to blame the MBP here, this could have been a failure of the monitor or adapter or a cable issue. It definitely warrants an investigation. I would recommend contacting Apple if you have not done so. Contact LG as well. Treat your TB3 to TB2 adapter as well as the TB2 cable you were using as potentially defective and in need of testing. You also don't need a TB cable to operate the display, just a standard DisplayPort cable.
 
Unplug the monitor at the mains (ie not Standby that might save settings).

Guessing the PRAM needs to be reset.

+) With set switch ON. Go to mains plug and PULL it out of the wall.
+) Wait 3 mins
+) Use a screwdriver hold the Electrically insulated handle. Use the metal part of the screwdriver to touch between each combination of pins (to ensure discharge)
+) Reconnect to Mains.

Thanks Jeff. The system capture has already been sent off to apples engineers. Talking with LG now. If it wasn't day 2 id likely agree its probably just the display going. BUT its day 2... and I don't believe in coincidences like that.

Ive tried every port and cable I have on the monitor. The error its having carries over into every port and type of input on it. HDMI tb2 and DP. Its even doing the strobbing when nothing is plugged into it and its in its in its about to power sleep mode.

Ive tried it with my other computer as well as my cameras with HDMI out.
 
should i just go with a base 455 model? i've heard these issues are apparent in the 460's
