Hey,

Curious whether anyone here has a new 13" Macbook Pro.
I have a Late 2013 Macbook Pro 15 (2.3 GHZ i7, 16GB ram, Intel Iris Pro, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB, 512gb SSD) But its getting heavy and I have a buyer for it so I'm thinking of getting a new machine.

I used to edit a lot but now only really ever play around with looks and edit little reference clips for directors, editors and colourists so I'm looking to get a 13" macbook to make traveling easier.
Since I upgraded to the Epic-W from my Epic-X I also have the luxury of working with 2k Prores LT clips.

My question is - Does anybody here have one of the new 13" machines?
How is it?

I'm considering switching to FCPX too because its so much better optimised.

Thanks.
D

stick to 15 inch.. apple does not put 4 cores in anything 13inches or less.. only 15 inch has quad core which you will easily notice it is twice as fast

If you want anything that resembles a real GPU, you need to go 15” as well. The new 15” systems are great in some ways, but lacking in other. Battery life and GPU power are lacking. The GPU concentrates more on pixel throughput rather than computational or 3D acceleration. It can run multiple 5K displays, but its compute performance is pretty underwhelming. The rest of the system is fantastic — quad Thunderbolt 3 ports and the I/O potential there is crazy. The screen is great, although not full 4K, wish it was... Touch Bar is becoming something more than just a gimmick now that other apps are supporting it. I wish they raised it up a bit to have the same profile or height as the other keys on the keyboard. I think they made their decision on its placement and height more on aesthetics than actual functionality. All in all, it’s a great system and my current favorite notebook, even though it’s overpriced... Some notebooks on the market have better GPUs or more RAM, but none of them offer the same level of refinement or such an overall complete package. None of the other notebooks on the market can compete in terms of I/O potential or internal storage performance.

Intel finally released quad core CPU's that fit into the 13" model, so it will probably get upgraded next year. Performance gain will be pretty dramatic, on par with 2010 when the 15" model went quad core with Sandy Bridge.
