  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Mac Pros... which video card?

Exactly, I dont need support... The drivers work! MACOSX86 has done all the hard work for apple... Why do you think more cards are being supported? There is more information regarding MAC OS X on the x86 forums than on apples site... I would go there for ANY problem. hackintosh or not. They are not going to teach you how to use your computer though.

Ive bought my Leopard license, but not my Mac PRo, the Hardware sucks too much... Turn that Avid bay into a FCP bay and continue to upgrade your machine like a normal computer... instead of a $4000 shiny silver case w/ an apple on the side that you have to toss every time something new comes out.

I am afraid that x86box is right on. I can't believe Apple has just to deal with a handful of graphic cards and the drivers aren't 100% optimized.

Apple has the re$ource$ to do it right, but it seems it always leaves something behind...

Let's hope they DO it. They have offered the same GPUs for two years.......... :-(((

There is an impending update for Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.2) expected in the days or weeks ahead. I'm hoping that this will contain new drivers for the nVidia cards and that RED isn't talking due to NDA with Apple.

My next expected communication with RED is the receipt of a FedEx # for delivery, so I'm going to have to order a MacPro with the substandard, stock ATI card unless I see some video card reports soon that give the green light to nVidia on Mac.

Gunleik,
I'm French so I checked the thread you mentioned. You're right when you say that it needs to be installed along with the approved Apple card to be activated. They think that it's because the card is very similar to the one that is provided by apple and that it must have been included by default in the mac 'EFI bios'.
So I doubt that if you put a Quadro in there it would be functioning, but I can't wait for somebody to try this.
I'm actually holding my purchase of a new Mac Pro just because we don't know yet what cards are compatible with Red Cine.

Silly question from new Red owner
What do you think is the minimum requirement for Apple computer to handle 4K resolution? Have you striped drives together or do you need full disk array? Best recommendation for a card? Anyone able to play off a laptop 4K? Thank you for all suggestions

there is too much answers about your big question .just do some search and you will find out what is suitable for you .good luck:sarcasm:

Just did a quick check on:
8 core 2.8GHz, 2GB RAM (I know, someone was supposed to install the other 6), 8800.

4K 2:1 to 1080 DPX log685, high detail, no grade.

It took 17 times real time.

Lucky boy, even if you don't get the best results right now I'm pretty sure that the in the next few weeks things will improve as Graeme and Apple work on the GPU handling.

Did you install the new graphic upgrade from Leopard 10.5.2 that came out yesterday?

Yeah, so Red Alert works, but that doesn't use your video processor, just the CPU. So, for God's sake, man, give Red Cine a try!
