New Mac Pro w/ Red Rocket-X in Thunderbolt 2 vs Old School Mac Pro

Great reading man, thanks for taking the time to go through all the details, I'm just waiting to see if they release a new MacPro this fall or to finally jump into these OldMP.

Cheers

As the owner of a very fast 12-core CMP, I would definitely consider going PC if starting out fresh today. The CMP is a great machine and with the 980 ti card is performing very well for me. But the PCI 2 + 4 slots is severely limiting. Yes, get an expander is what everyone seems to be saying, but personally, that's a high premium (the cost of a solid PC build) to add a few lanes of PCI 2 bandwidth. I don't think any of today's top GPUs will be able to run at full speed on the expander. Don't get me wrong, I love my machine and have squeezed so much out of a box that started as a basic 8-core, but I spend quite a bit of time trying to work around its limitations. There are so many great values in TB Raids and other peripherals today that we'll never have access to on a classic machine. I'd kill for a TB / Esata (or SAS) RAID so I can invest in SOMETHING this isn't already obsoleted.
