Im thinking of buying the new mac pro. I use davinci a lot and was wondering if the video card set up will work or will i get that screen that pops up and says video cards not configured properly or they dont work well with davinci etc .. are they in the right slot?

thanks

well they better be in the right slots, being that there is no longer slots lol! honestly its more about when will resolve be optimized for the new mac pro and will it like all the various GPU options or just the higher ended ones? i think consulting with black magic tech support or on their forum would be best for a clear answer. or maybe checking with someone who has already gotten a mac pro in the mail here, some people have them. i remember someone mentioned they were doing a test to see how well it would work on various apps, including resolve. the answers as of now weren't great, but thats because it needs optimization if i remember right

Any one? New Mac Pro and resolve ?

Ok so in the absence of any infer does this sound appropriate for Resolve

New Mac Pro 8 core 3Ghz
Firepro Dual D700 GPU
500Gb SSD (system drive only)
32Gb ram
External raid TBC
Dual 24 inch Headed monitors TBC

I have the 8 core
with dual D-700s
1Tb SSD (system drive only)
64Gb ram
Promise R6

So far NOT SO good. We will need a way to sent program to a third monitor. Converter or external enclosure.
Our Wave surface crashes Davinci every time.
We get a bad configuration warning every time we boot up. So despite spending over 9K US we are still struggling to get anything done on DaVinci.
Oh... the good old days of Snow Leopard..... Hopefully we can figure this out.

12 cores
dual D-700
64GB ram
BMD Ultrastudio 4K
Tangant Element
Resolve 10.1.2

No bad configuration here, no crashes. But the Ultrastudio has bug with the latest driver/firmware, it does not pass the audio and make fcp7 crashes if you use it as video out. Just downgrade if the problem is there.

8-core, D700 GPUs, 1TB SSD, 64GB, Pegasus2 18TB RAID… Resolve seems to work OK. Performance isn't as good as on my HP with double the cores and a Titan GPU. Mostly I'm blaming it on the GPUs at this point and BMD has some real work to do for getting OpenCL and nMP performance up to snuff. If I run my Decklink HD Extreme 3D+ card via Thunderbolt in a Sonnet enclosure, it seems to work, but I've had some crashes/ instability there. But it was a brief round of testing I did this past weekend. Keep the Decklink in my HP tower normally.

I have an AJA io4K box coming in that will reside on the new Mac Pro. That doesn't help with Resolve, though. I guess this isn't going to be my Resolve box… Not that I had planned on it for that use.
