  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New low-cost downconverter available soon

Doesn't the Actioncam have a breakout box on the top stage with various power connectors...?

Thats the higher model. The Actioncam Red Edition does not have the breakout box top-stage. It does, however, have a red power connector that comes through the shaft so that the RED can receive power from the red cradle at the bottom.

I'm having trouble getting my decimator running, any help would be appreciated..

here's what I tried

(Input) R1 PREVIEW output using a "Red BNC to DIN cable" -> "BNC MALE TO MALE coupler" -> Decimator

(Output) Decimator SD output (BNC) -> BNC/Phono adapter -> Composite input on TV

I'm pretty green about video cables, what am I missing!!!

I did get an image pop up for a second, the camera is set to 720p output??

Any help much appreciated, I'm almost out of things to try.

Update--decimator tested

Update--decimator tested

Yesterday I finally received the Decimator and tested it with a variety of signals including the Arri D21 which we are using on the current show as well as a RED One, it worked just fine. The DIT on my job felt the image quality was everything it needed to be. Build quality etc. all up to snuff.

Ronx, not sure what the issue is that you are experiencing. Since you are in UK, is it too obvious to ask if you had the dipswitch on the unit flipped to the PAL position for your TV's...? I tested the RED using a cheap handheld Casio TV to make sure it would work with consumer grade models and it worked fine (here in NTSC land). You should check with whoever you purchased the unit from and try another one, perhaps.

ronx, did you try to switch between 50Hz and 59,94 Hz in the RED HD SDI settings, that helped me with the AJA downconverter a while back.

Good luck.
Manuel

Could anyone tell me the type/specification of the DC power connector that is needed to power the Decimator? I'm just getting a D-Tap cable made up and cannot find any spec on the power connector.

Thanks,

Jon

What are the mounting options for the Decimator? Any pre-threaded holes?

Thanks,
Tim

It ships with a baffling little plate that might allow one to mount the unit similar to the sidemounted wireless receiver setup on the back of a 2/3" camera--not really sure about that one. The only holes on the case are for the 4 Phillips screws that hold the case together. For most people, I think Velcro is your best friend here.

Charles, I and a RedByte Sales Rep. fiddled with that little plate for awhile and I could find no way that the damn thing actually attached to the unit. I wasn't going to ismantle the thing to find out, but baffling is a good way to describe it.

exactly, but why look a gift horse in the mouth. Except when you can't find the mouth on the damn thing, and you're not even sure if it's a horse to begin with...

:) Me too, I had no idea how to use that thing.

Pics - use the wisdom of crowds to figure it out! :)

This is really funny. If any body figures it out what the H$%^ is that piece of metal, please post it. I'm really intrigued.

For Ronx, check the PAL/NTSC switch. If your local sets are PAL, and it is set to NTSC, they would not work. Broadcast monitors probably would, since they are usually auto-sensing for PAL and NTSC. There are not many, if any, consumer sets in the US that are auto-sensing.
