  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW LOW BUDJET MUSIC VIDEO SHOT ON RED SCARLET!

Fully Scarlet?

Great work, nice post effects :)

Lens breakdown please.

The 25 second studio bumper in the beginning was a deal breaker for me and I stopped the video. For feature films, maybe that's acceptable, but the current internet audience is ADD nation...make sure your logo/ident is concise (5-10 secs. max) for a video under 10 mins. Just some constructive criticism...not trying to be an asshole!

nice job on this, loved the effects you had in there. Did not understand a lick of the lyric's but its a catchy beat. Again awesome job!

Just my quick little thing... the camera work and lighting is solid, it's just the content that I'm not a fan of. I'm not sure of what he's saying but I'm assuming (from the editing) that he's getting high all day or something, which a lot of rappers in America do... but I just think the smoking on-camera is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much, it's in literally 95% of the video. To me, it seems like the rapper is a "poser" trying too hard to show how much he smokes, then, on top of it, we see the girls doing it. The rap videos in America will "hint" at it but if they show anything, it'll be for a second or two... while this one seems like he wants to hit the audience over the head with it. If the rapper wants to show him "getting high" for an entire video, I just think (if you had to do that) then there might be a more creative was to do so. Watch the old Cypress Hill videos... everything they do is about getting high and I can't remember a video being anything like this rapper. Also, the girl holding money and flipping the camera off... then them doing whippits (I assume?)... it just kinda starts to feel like it's trying too hard.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, I'm no expert, who is? :) It's just my opinion and I could be 100% wrong. I stopped directing rap videos for these exact reasons... some artists have no concept of 'concept' and just want to do every cliche thing possible. I give anyone a ton of credit for getting out there and pulling shoots together and putting them up for critique.

Guys thnx everybody for critics) about logo - )))) i know that it's to long but its just like home version in vimeo) on youtube and tv there gonna be 2sec. logo for sure) about lens and gear - i used red scarlet with zeiss 21 and 85 CP.2, was filming at 4k and the whole video "took" 2*64gb redmags. in the studio on the black background i used two arri lights and one kinoflo - all the rest of the footage was without lighting. practically the whole content was filmed with 1/92 shutter speed at 24fps....

about all that rap content and smoking.... yeah its gonna be a long discussion and i really don't care about what he is singing and how much he is smoking) its just our work so i wanted to know just your critics about scarlet footage and my technics) i own scarlet about 4 months and before i was shooting with 5d and 7d canons, so i am rookie here and trying to learn as much as possible about red and its potential)

THNX A LOT TO EVERYBODY)

I don't mind the smoke at all. It's a hip hop video for Christ's sake. But, I do feel like the look was pretty inconsistent. I know this was a conscious choice, but because each scene had a different feel in contrast, saturation and camera work, I feel like it was directed by three different people and it had no strong tone overall. I felt like it was trying to emulate every video it had seen before, but couldn't pick which one. Overall though it was entertaining. Got a little repetitive though.

When your intro is more interesting its kinda hard to watch the video

I thought it looked good. I liked that you favored wide lenses, made sense to me. You kept it simple, and made it good. Win win in my book.
