  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

"New look for The Cabinet of Dr Caligari"

Very cool, one of my favorites ... next to Steam Boat Bill Jr.

I also like that they restored it to be "viewable", (i.e. they did full reconstructive composites to restore lost sections, the concept should be to restore it to what the audience saw originally ... i don't like other restorations where they went the scientific artifact path).
 
A long time ago in Venice I met a production designer- Jan Sclhubach who told me his first job was working scenic on Caligari. He said that they did the painted sets out of expediency not design because they didn't have enough money to build sets, and so made film history.
 
F. W. Murnau's 1926 movie Faust is excellent too. The imagery is brilliantly conceived and executed; a great balance of light and dark. Murnau didn't pull his punches.
