I just bought a Komodo after that price drop recently. Everything has been great and I've been having a lot of fun learning the camera and the workflow, but I just hit a snag.
For the first few days I was using a SanDisk CFast card from my 9-5 studio job without issues, but I have to return that to the office. So, I ordered a used "RED branded" CFast card from another Komodo user on Facebook Marketplace to replace it. She said it was about 4 years old and that it was working properly.
When it arrived, I inserted the RED CFast card, and the camera would fail to boot whenever it was inside. So I removed the card, let the camera boot, and then inserted it. At that point it would detect that it was inserted, but it wouldn't let me record to it or format it. The "EJECT" and "FORMAT" option were greyed out.
When I removed it to test on a PC, it failed to open. Windows would say: "USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."
I tried two different card readers on multiple PCs. Note: The SanDisk CFast card from work was working fine with these readers.
I noticed one more relevant variable a little later on. After booting the camera without the card inserted again, I noticed the firmware had been DOWNGRADED from it's shipped firmware version. When I initially booted the camera for the first time it was version 1.8.3 (I was using the SanDisk card from work at this time). After I put the RED CFast card in (when it failed to boot) it was firmware version 1.6.5. This seems to imply that either the RED CFast card had that old firmware installation .bat file on it, or some hardware malfunction forced a factory reset.
Something strange is going on and I've run out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Note: It's tempting to just assume the card is bad. And I'm also leaning that way. But the seller is continuing to stay in contact trying to help and assures me the card was working. So I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Thank you!
