  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New (kinda) interactive Honda Ad, really nice concept and execution

This was passed around at work today. STUNNING. Very, very cool. I can see this approach starting to take off. Even in narrative television at some point.

Hey very cool ad. How do they achieve this by pressing "R" key on our computers? I mean they shot two videos but how the pressing "R" is achieved?

cool

Nice concept. Thanks for sharing.

It looks like a variation of the 3d playback mechanism.
It only shows the left eye stream and it switches to the right eye stream when the "r" key is pressed.

Very cool indeed! I too would love to know how that toggle approach works. And could one have more than two?

How do we achieve this toggle between two clips?

no one here who knows how to achieve this toggle between clips :-(

Its a little piece of code in a somewhat custom vidplayer.
Essentially, two layers of video are playing simultaneously on top of each other, there is a "listener" waiting for an input key, and when that key (R) is hit, the top layer is hidden. It could be flash, it could be html5, it could be something else entirely, but that is the basics of it. Not rocket science, but very simple, very clever, very well executed idea!

I did a little research and the company responsible for the programming in html5 is StinkDigital from the UK. If you go to their website you can read a short blurb about how they did it. It seems to be not a very complex piece of programming at all. Part of what made this so special was the match framing visually so it really feels like you are seeing two sides of the same coin.

its some sort of javascript mechanism. i tried peeling into the code, but they have it hidden pretty well.

makes me wonder how much they had to pay youtube to get interactive content on there.

I am not 100% on this, but I think I read somewhere that the page is kind of a fake. It has it's own link The Other Side separate from their other channels.
So the coding is unique to this page and made to look exactly like a YouTube page but is actually their own code. So yes indeed I wonder how much it costs to have to page like that buried in YouTube. Then again it is Honda so I guess they have deep pockets:)

Wow!

/me goes to pick up pieces of my brain scattered due to head exploding
