I just received an early version of the new Kessler FUSION motion-control system. Even with a completely unbalanced load, it handles the Epic effortlessly. I should be getting focus and zoom motors for this soon. I think this system will change the way a lot of us shoot. Already, quite a few of my dolly and slider moves in "TimeScapes" were motorized with Kessler's older Oracle system. I just don't think that humans can push a dolly or slider precisely enough for the kinds of shots I really like. This new FUSION system uses magnetically encoded motors, so it's monumentally accurate and smooth. I will post more as I test it.

is this a complete package that can be bought from kessler ? or is the fusion system just the little red box and the software itself which can be combined with some of their previous sliders ? If so, can I ask what hardware package you are using in this video Tom ?
dead keen on this system, did they give you a hint about the price ?

Well, the dolly is the Kessler Shuttle Pod, but this system will also bolt right on to any Kessler CineSlider, etc. Yes, FUSION will come in kits you can buy. Probably single axis, 3-axis, 5-axis, etc. You will have to ask Kessler about all the details. http://kesslerfusion.com/

do want. this and a canon 24mm on the scarlet needs to get into the mountains.

Can't wait to get your Movie Tom ... I am especially looking forward to all the behind the scenes you put on the blueray.

Here's btw ... my latest Kessler "Borg" trailer (i have a little motion control trailer hooked to a jib that is on tracks, I got the idea from one of the camera moves you did in the desert a while ago). Kessler's stuff is like the best tinker toy set ever.

I've been following the developments of this system as closely as I can, even before it was officially announced by Kessler and was just something bloggers had heard about. Can't wait to get my hands on it, and, coincidentally, just called Kessler a couple of days ago to inquire about where they are in the release process. Good to know they are at least letting some of their top affiliated shooters work with it some. I'm on the mailing list for product announcements, so I hope to be among the first adopters when they finally release units publicly, which is now looking more and more like July than June.

Question, Tom. I will be using this for both live action moves and time lapse, and my understanding is that there will only be a single choice of motor (drive ratio) for the motors controlling the head itself. Do those motors feel to you like they will be versatile enough to excel in both applications with a camera the weight of Epic (including mattebox & filters)? Also are these new motors louder, softer, or about the same as the Oracle analog motors? They didn't sound exactly quiet in your clip, but I assume your camera mic was directly facing them, too.

What love to hear your continuing impressions of the system as you work with it more and more.

Looks nice, the web page is a little hard to decipher on price.
What's the rough price for a 3 axis system, minus the track ? Is that the $6000 price ?

Cool thread on Tom's site goes over both time lapse and realtime moves with Eric giving a Demo ... http://forum.timescapes.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=7178 .

As eric is talking ... seems like there is only one "brick" motor ... but the slider/jib motors appear to have multiple speeds . The brick motor seems a bit less noisy then my current pan/tilt head when it's going slow in the video ... but get's loud on faster moves. Is Tom out of NDA on this ?
