I've been looking to upgrade my system to Intel's new Sandy Bridge E cpu but it seems like it is already out of stock or reselling for double the price in most places. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this will be the situation for a while?

This is the chip I'm talking about:

CHeers! for any feedback!!

They'll be back in stock soon, but you will have to watch for them or place an order with a vendor to get in line. The 3930K CPU is still rolling off the lines, they're just in high demand. Intel has run into a couple shortages of the popular items while repurposing some fab lines. Lot has to do with the ramp-up of the new Ivy Bridge mobile CPUs that should start shipping to consumers in the next 60 days or so.

The i7-3960X CPU is in stock most places, yes I realize it's $450 more, but it's always an option.

I finally got my new PC yesterday, 3930K, 24G RAM, N-VIDIA 590GTX. What's coming is painful (I'm coming from an XP box to Win 7 64-bit). I'll post pics and comments once I'm done.

Now if I can only get my Scarlet! C'mon RED!

Thanks for the info Jeff!! Yea, as much as I would love to get the 3960X, it's just a little asking of my wallet at the moment. I guess I will try to get in line.

I have been searching around and came across this Central Computers site:

Have you ever heard of them? It seems like they are in stock, however they do have mixed reviews (some 5 stars and a lot of 1 stars). I would love to know if any of you have any experience with them.

Cheers

Hi Abraham,

I've done a ton of business with Central and have always found them to be quite good. That said, for me they are a local vendor, one of their stores is about a mile from my house and another within reasonable driving distance. Thus I've never done any business with them via the web. I've had them replace a laptop screen, but other than that I've never used their service department so I can't speak to that either. But they are local and have hard to find parts, particularly useful for building a server as Fry's etc even NewEgg carry a somewhat limited range of server parts, and Central usually has what I need including enterprise level hard drives.

I've never had a issue on a product return.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Thanks tons Steve. I think i'll wait a little bit and if Newegg doesn't get the chips in I'll order from Central Computers. Hoping someone gets them in soon. Amazon says it has it but it will take "1-2 months to ship", which pretty much means they don't have it.
