Hey everyone- I just put up a blog post that covers what I think is one of the best updates in Windows 8 for the "Video Pro": storage improvements! - http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/...ormance-storage-solutions-with-windows-8.aspx In this blog post I cover the storage overhaul I performed when rebuilding my Windows 7 from-scratch built PC for Windows 8. You can read up on that post here: http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/...efreshing-a-performance-pc-for-windows-8.aspx - As a test, I used Premiere Pro CS6 to evaluate NLE performance for 1080p and 4K REDCODE RAW previews. It's working great so far. Storage Spaces are interesting because they are easy to setup in Windows, have RAID-like performance, offer mirrored resiliency, and are easy to extend (add drives).

I didn't see any real MBps numbers in either of those articles. I'm curious to know more about this "Storage Spaces" thing, but so far I am skeptical. It sounds like Microsoft has created a dumbed down version of RAID.

Looks like some kind of Time Machine / Software RAID spread across multiple volumes. I don't expect a speed increase out of that tomfoolery. There's even an article at PCWorld suggesting you use USB thumb drives as part of the "Pool" which struck me as pretty crazy. I'd really like to see how direct disk access software like Avid ProTools handles a media pool - My RAID 5 SAS isn't even supported by AVID for that!
