Here's our new handle system for Red One.

It has multiple mounting points for putting things on your Red like batteries, drives, lights, etc. and also putting your Red on things, such as cars, boats, helicopters, etc.

Top handle is rounded underneath for nice grip, and flat on top with 3/8-16 tapped holes. End plates are laser cut steel. Very strong.

Plate for RED Drive has isolation mounts.

Please know that the final product will be all black - the aluminum black anodized and the steel satin black powder coat.

Don't have the final price yet - that will be based on interest, but should be $395 or less for handle system, hardware, and isolation mount.

Very Nice,

Nice work, Doug. Have you done any testing of the efficacy of the isolation mount for the drive? If so, how extensive?

The price is fantastic for the combo, and I would definitely be interested when I take delivery of the camera (not 'til the Birger Nikon mount comes out). My only concern is with sharp corners on the metal. Will everything be chamfered or rounded somewhat?

my thought also. And any possibility of black anodization in the future?

Looks good doug. Let us know when it's ready.

The handle and drive plate will be black anodized and the steel end plates will be black satin powder coated. No sharp edges.

Evin - here's the video rod receiver thread:

I'll make a few units up and test the drive isolation in the next week.

Thanks for the compliments.

That's my dual V mount battery holder prototype. Don't know if we will offer that for sale because I think there are already dual mounts out there?

Again, another great design. Layout is really nice. Keeping the handle clear and the IO ports clear is really good.

I don't like the standoff system - the way you mounted the LCD and battery plate. Could use more refinement I think. Too much hardware. Looks like it would get loose.

What keeps the handle from spinning?

How much and when? I would order it.

Do the threaded holes in the top handle go all the way through? They should so that for underslinging a nut can be attached to a bolt, otherwise the camera is hanging off the threads. Also, the areas around those pass-throughs on the bottom should be backcut out to allow the full clearance of a standard 3/8"-16 nut, plus room for at least a standard walled socket wrench to grasp the nut.

I also agree that the handle should not be allowed to rotate. Perhaps some form of tab on the handle that fit into locator slots on the end plates.

What is the spacing of the 3/8"-16 holes on your top handle? There are both industry standards and RED standards (not the same, although there is overlap). This is how Element Technica came up with their spacing and thereby allows to use of the most accessories out there. Wouldn't want to arrive on set one day to discover that my holes don't line up.

Do your end plates allow for use of common RED accessories such as MonsterCine's focus hook or ET's viewfinder bracket, top plate or anyone's 15mm or 19mm rod setup? This reminds me of the SIM Video solution, which essentially abandons all of those options for their own system. Of course this is designed as a low cost option, but if it can be made to play nice with others then it both allows the use of more tools for the end users and probably means far greater sales for you.

Great points. The SIM Video handle seems great as a standalone accessory, but I don't like that it excludes the use of RED or ET top plates and rods.

Should have this ready to ship in 3 weeks or so.

It "plays nice" with RED cradle, LCD, EVF, RED Drives, OB lights, mic shock mounts, wireless receivers, audio breakaways, low mode Steadicam, car mounts, crane remote heads. It fairly bristles with 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 female (or male, if you want) threads, so it's endlessly customizable, and very strong.

It doesn't need to play nice with other handle/rod systems because it obviates them.

Any updates on this handle system?

Estimated cost?

Yeah, you can put the battery base plate on one side and the drive on the other. Then there's even room left over to mount a wireless receiver, cable clamps, etc. The plate is .090 aluminum, easy to drill through and customize it to suit your needs.
