  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New German Primes: Price below 10.000 per set.

I can't help thinking what may be a disturbing thought in some quarters.
During WWII, very few people could figure out why the Nazis put so much time and money into developing their V-2 Rocket bombs, which with an average strike rate of less than two people per rocket, made them a pretty useless weapon.
Then on August 6 1945, everybody suddenly realized the answer: The V-2 was only part of a radical new weapon system, the other was the Atomic Bomb, which fortunately turned out to be too hard for them to develop.

Back to the 21st century:
So, why do we need all these 35mm format lenses right now?

Is there perhaps another Teutonic Manhattan Project out there, to make a head-on competitor for the RED? Maybe Deutchland will be uber Alice after all.

just a pic :

oupss .... sorry

dou you think this is THE serie ? Sanjin ?

I don't get the 5mm increments though... I don't know much about "common lenghs" but it seems to give some un-common focal lengths.

Say the 18mm is the base:
18mm 23mm 28mm 33mm 38mm 43mm 48mm 53mm 58mm 63mm 68mm 73mm 78mm 83mm 88mm 93mm 98mm 103mm 108mm 113mm 118mm 123mm 128mm 133mm 138mm 143mm 148mm...

It also seems line the never ending line up...

We need all these 35mm lenses for balancing the price of the other - I think to the used one - that are really become too expensive.

I think it will be:
...,14,15,16,17,18,19,20
25,30,35,40,45,50,55,....

why would you want an end?

cheers,
antoine.

Whatever happens,

it appears to me that both lense sets (RED and the unknown) seem to fall in prices right before they get in the hands of anybody.

Thats market rules.

Except someone of the both buys the other one. Or they make a deal.

Looking forward to results and reviews then...

Cheers,
Axel

Hi,

I am pretty sure first lenses will be 25, 32, 40, 50, 75, 95 followed by 12, 14, 16, 150.

I was pretty close with my price guide of 2500 in the other thread when others were saying 5000.

Stephen

At $2000 a lens with very good optics and only fair mechanicals I ca see individuals buying the sets but not rental houses. If these are half price of the Red lenses then I have to look close at these. I hope they are not so lightweight so they will last with normal use. Does anyone know how much less than $4000 Red will charge? After reading Marks post on the Red it is more confusing.

3 rental houses i know of ordered

one of them canceled a set of UP

Thank you Stephen it looks like you were pretty close. 6 lenses at less than $2500 each in the set. So that is all we know for now. I am excited to see photos, and find out who is actually making these.

Does anyone know if the 6 lenses come shipped in a real case? I need to prepare my case company so hopefully they will give dimensions soon.

And these ship at NAB?

Because these lenses are made exactly at those technical specification with the price list

written below 25, 32, 40, 50, 75 and to follow 100, 125, 150, 200, etc,...

I'm also curious if the lenses will be shown at NAB- or if anyone will have a set with them. I'd really like to check them out in person, and see how they feel mechanically. Any chance of a NAB visit??

wow, easy to see why even unknown commodities can generate so much excitement, speculation, rumor.... when the alternatives are so pricey... but we still have to wait and see on both Red & the mysterious german "set"--

but it strikes me as possible when many of the new generation Nikon and Canon lenses are proving so good -- and it looks like Epic, Scarlet will be able to use them easily without crappy $500 lens mounts (like the Red nikon) for example...

So they may be hurrying these out at a very reasonable price before still lenses become a fully operational alternative... (as is already sort of happening with birger mount...)

exciting times...
