  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Gear from Element Technica

I'm having flashbacks to the Ronford Baker EVF Mount thread... somehow I doubt this thread will play out the same way.

Yeah. Same thought occurred to me! But to be fair the ET guys never dissed the Ronford Baker themselves, so I'm not going to give them a hard time.

I love the quick release design. Very handy if you don't have a swing way or need to quickly switch rod length. Also that PL mount looks like it takes care of RED's PL shortcomings.

We haven't seen the Long Valley 15mm mount in person, but from I've heard ours is different in a few ways. Our lightweight 15mm bracket clamps onto any of our ultra rods or any other 15mm rods out there. We had a very large number of our clients ask us to make this piece so they could use the lightweight 60mm spaced 15mm rod standard while using the large stock of ultra rods that they already owned. It was on the drawing board for quite some time, as were our lightweight 15mm hybrid clamps. It's one of three very similar clamps in our product line that allow you to use the lightweight rod standard.

I don't have a price yet, but as soon as I do, I'll post it.

In regard to the mount on the camera, its a stainless steel Panavision mount.

Or maybe it's not really PL at all... Oh, I guess they confirmed it's a PV mount. That's cool. I think we all knew it would happen at some point.

I like the ability to clamp onto standard rods. The Long Valley mount uses rods that are threaded on the end and screw into the mount. What's so similar is the shape of the mounting surface that actually attaches to the camera. Not that there's a huge amount of room for divergence between two designs here.

Anyway, it looks like a great solution. :)

All 3rd party accessories I have for the RedOne come from ET except the lightweight lens support that I bought from Douglas Underdahl a few months ago. Both are mounted to the Red's body in the same way. Douglas' lightweight support is any penny worth and so is ET's stuff. If ET would have been earlier with their solution I probably have gone the ET route - only becuase their stuff is Arri grade to say the least.

Both soultion are solid and probably differ in price. Douglas' leightweight has less features and hence should be cheaper, I suppose.

Well it looks like this new support is different from ours, in that it has clamps instead of 3/8-16 sockets. So folks can choose what they like. Our rods come in two lengths, 2.5 and 7.5 inches and they have both male and female ends so you can make your set up longer or shorter depending on what lens you have mounted. I find it's pretty fast to unscrew the rods but if you have a whole lightweight set up and want to leave it as one unit, then this clamp on support might be better. When I run and gun I just plop the entire cam into a Petrol bag, ENG style, without taking off the matte box, rods, ff, etc.

Oh, if anyone wants to rent a PV mount, I have that, too.

...yes, the new lightweight rod mount will work with or without the baseplate installed.

It will be available in roughly two weeks for $240

Looks like this mount, as Long Valley's, will also physically interfere with the Birger EF mount's stock straight Lemo power connector. But a right angle Lemo will probably solve that problem if I can just find a UK stockist!

The UltraLite 15 is available in limited quantities now. It should show up on our website within the next week or so, but if you need to purchase it before then feel free to call the shop and we will get it on order for you.

Within a month we should have hundreds available...

The ET lightweight bracket is beautiful and works with the Birger Canon mount even without a 90 degree lemo. Though you'll have to remove the bracket to remove the lemo this way. Not a big deal for me since I always have the Birger plugged in and removing the bracket takes 1 minute.

Did I miss something? That's a Panavision mount in Chris' photo...
Cheers,
Harry
