  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New "Game Changer" Movi Handheld Stabilizer

Les hello, Iam sorry to say that a rewired brushless motor aprt of being a motor with out a gearbox, so you can concider it as a DDR, is way different than specs of DDR motors.
do your serach/ Also in that weight handling those motors can hardy rotate the camera and when they get resistance the start wobbling back and forth.
Belive me Iam doing Motion control for a few years, I know what Iam saying. Dont buy everything as its the same .
there are motors and there are motors.
Faulbauher, Micro mo, Maxon, made at certain quality and specs.Harmonic drives that are also incredible tjhough they are gearsboxes. and DDrs with very high torgue and low rpm.putting those side by side with rc rewired motors isnt exactly the same.

Are you typing this on a cell phone or what?

We are very interested in the Freefly products & are considering acquiring all 3 systems. That said, it's a pretty serious investment in new equipment from a new company which begs the question of obsolescence. Does anyone know if the firmware will be upgradeable, or better still if there might even be hardware upgrade paths when physical improvements are made similar to REDs policies? "Game changing" support would be encouraging.

Consider yourself warned.
GameChanger 2.0 is coming.

I was at their booth today and was able to try it out for quite awhile. It's definitely impressive stuff! It was in the single operator mode which I'm told can be programmed to taste. In this mode a slight pan movement won't affect the camera's position until you pan beyond a certain degree. At that point the camera will pan with you while still stabilizing the camera. It actually felt pretty good.

I was moving around framing shots I might do with my blackbird. I noticed that I instantly started doing my style of walk I do when shooting with my stabilizer. Knees bent to minimize up and down motion. This sort of technique you use with other stabilizers is still going to be useful with this device to get the most stable footage.

It sounds like they have really put a lot of work into programming this thing. It's interesting though, the rep I talked to mentioned that he's sure DIYers will be able to make pretty much the same thing for under $1000, but that of course their system will be more polished. I was really surprised to hear him say that.

Any Epic/Scarlet operators out there: Build your camera up in its lightest shootable configuration, and hold it at eye lever for 180 seconds. I dare you.

Thanks, someone else noticed that it takes a 300 pounds giant to operate this thing at eye-level over several takes, or even a whole day.

Especially since, to get at eye-level, you have to hold the MoVI above your head?!

So if you rent one of these don't forget to rent an easy rig as well...or a 300 pound giant.

Or have an orthopedic surgeon on standby...That position, at start of the above video link, is lumbar disk bulge, etc., etc. provoking, especially in the operators/patients, who have had lower back-disc issues= most of western man, aged 50+...

Thank you very much

:willy_nilly:hahaha this is so funny. ok V2 will be for full load cameras , so we are talking of a 10-12kgr camera set up here + the frame of this thing its self so we will be what 16-18kg?
ahh thats easy to run around with one hands hahaah, please make it a little harder its not hard enough.
I have a Blimp that lifts 20 kgr, its 9meters x 2,7 meters diameter. Maybe I will just drag this around with me as well lifting my hand while Iam running lololol.:emote_22_yikes:

As someone who has been trying to produce very high quality video from RC helis for the last 10 years using 10 lb. cameras, I can tell you that this type of technology is absolutely a game changer for close range aerials. There are a lot of clients who don't want to have to take the time and effort to post stabilize 4-6K footage. I can tell you that getting an RC aircraft to be ultra smooth (and keeping it that way) is a monumental pain in the ass. All it takes sometimes is minor changes in weather conditions to screw the pooch. This technology allows for great footage when the rig is having a less than perfect day or when wind and weather conditions are less than optimum. I think I hesitated about 1.5 seconds before clicking the preorder button. The other thing I know from experience is there are very few things that humans suck at worse than predicting what the future holds.

all very true, but then again you are talking...aerial, that is a little different than 1 hand holding running along, or replacing a steadicam in any way isnt it? I thought the game changer was going to the hheld idea. Not the gyrohead for aerial.
regards

edit great respect to those who fly their cams in the sky. I have crashed my nitromethanol Blimp more than 5 times.. so... its a chalenge specially with high winds..

Call DJI and the them to get ready for the BM pocket cam...DJI Zenmuse and BM Pocketcam would be remarkable. Running system for 4500$..../

Looks like DJI is planning to take over this field.
Plenty of jobs here...just have to be willing to move to China.

Happy to announce that AbelCine will be our official training partner in the United States. Freefly will be working closely with AbelCine to provide an immersive 2 day training course in both their LA and NYC locations. We are really looking forward to this and will use what we learned from our first 2 training sessions to make sure that this course is as informative and interactive as possible. Our goal is to take all the know how we gained in creating the MōVI and pass it on to customers to enable them to create amazing shots.
