So, I think it's great that there's support to bring in Native R3D files through Log and Transfer, but it looks like it doesn't retain any changes to the footage or piggyback the RMD or anything. Is that correct? Is there no way to take advantage of the RAW data after the L&T process? I'd even be pleased if L&T would recognize the RMD before putting it in the QT wrapper. Am I wrong here? Thanks.

Oh, and we're LOVING our new camera, RED. Beautiful.

The short answer: don't use Log and Transfer.

Use RedCine-X Pro, adjust your metadata, and then export ProRes proxies from there.

Work with ProRes in Final Cut, edit edit edit, re-conform back to the R3D files for color grading.

Using Log and Transfer in FCP is . . . well, it's bad. Pretend it doesn't exist.

For more info, lurk around the entirety of the Red Workflow forum. Do a lot of reading. There's a lot to be learned about the Red workflow, and most of it has been written about on these forums ad nauseum by this point.

Thanks, Nick. I was hoping I was doing something wrong, that L&T would consider the RMD in the transfer. Oh well.

But if you are color grading in color, would it make sense to create quicktime wrapper recode masters out of recine to keep you RMD, reconform from your proxies, and send color rather than reconforming to high quality prores files to send to color?

It'd be really cool if the L&T had a side panel with some R3D controls so you could tweak individual clips (and apply to more if you want)...then it could bring it in as a ProRes.

Pipe dream, but would be cool.
