Hi all,

I was very excited powering up my epic x for the first time today. All seems fine except the LCD only shows the bottom 40%. Top portion is mostly black with thin vertical purple, black and white lines in different parts of it.
Lines shift slightly when moved around.

This is my first red. The fan is much louder than I thought it would be, even when started up. Like a baby hair dryer. Actually it gets quieter when you hit record. Not sure if that is related or normal.

Please tell me it's the cable :mad2:

Thank ng you for your help

Try changing cable would be a first step. The fan does normally go quiet for recording, and louder between takes to keep the camera cool. Other thing to try is record some footage and check it looks and plays back OK both on the camera and/or on a computer in Redcine-X Pro. And also try seeing if pictures look OK on an HD-SDI or HDMI monitor. This will narrow down whether the problem is the camera or the display or the cable.

Hey, my RED sometimes when powering up show white screen, sometimes left screen normal right black and purple, for me its a thing of unplugging the cable at the screen joint and plugging back in again.
If you blackshade using adaptive mode mode on the fans it runs pretty quite! I upgraded to the fans 2.0 and it works like a charm. Let us know if it works! greets

For the fan noise, when you upgrade the firmware/get your camera from RED, the fan is set to Auto 50% which in my view is a misnomer, as there's nothing "auto" about it. The fan only goes at 50% capacity, no matter what happens with the temperature.
If you go to fan control and put it to adaptive, then you can chose at which temperature you would like for it to operate at. I use 67. In that case then the fan will automatically keep the camera at that temperature. And that results in much much lower noise from the fan...
Remember to black shade when the camera reaches your selected temperature.

Thanks guys for your responses!

I took some footage, downloaded the software and loaded the file... time froze when I pressed play! The footage was fine :)
So thankfully it does not seem to be the brain. I played the cable a little bit and when attaching, the LCD shows a flash of white when connected, so I would guess the LCD is fine. I think (and hope) its the wire and not the LCD or the Side SSD.

Thanks for the insight on the fan. I actually was determined not to ask any newbie questions on the forums! I'm going to a rental place tomorrow to see where the problem is. Thanks again!

I have a similar problem with my LCD/camera. Black and white screen on boot up. Re-patching the cable tends to fix it. I get the problem with all my cables, so it's not a bad cable. I hope this is a software problem which will be fixed soon.

I read somewhere on RU. That to help avoid the half white/ black screen on boot up the touch screen should be set to 25/30hz. not the higher rates offered in the menu.
