I found the "Create custom Lens Calibration" quite glitchy.
First there were NO Nikon lenses that seem to be able to fit (because of the incomplete implementaion of the lens command protocol).
Other (electronic) lenses did not even get the "unknown lens" alert.
I've tried some fairly common glass like the 17-35, the 50mm 1.4, the Tokina 11-16, no luck.

Suddenly the 28mm, 1:1.4 got the process going (shall take 12 minutes it said). The progress bar started, the lens stopped down/ opened again, .... then nothing.
After 20 minutes I lost patience (personal record).
After that it behaved like the other lenses (incomplete com protocol, etc.)

The RED-approved lenses work normally.

Anybody here with more luck?

Jochen

I know you are talking about Nikon.

Just wanted to let you know, that the lens calibration of my Tokina 11-16 EF worked like a charm.
So the feature itself should work in general.

Fellow Redusers
What Nikon or third party lenses did you manage to get working with the Nikon mount, besides the ones Red has approved?

Would be really interested to do a realistic appraisal of the pros and cons with sticking to the Nikon mount.

The focal lengh and the focus distance of the Tokina are correctly displayed in the lis here.
But I cannot even get mine to change the f stop. They are displayed on the monitor and I can choose one, but nothing happens.

Jochen, I just want to verify that the switch on the lenses were set to AF before starting the AF process.

Jochen,
Is the tokina 11-16 the DX or the DX II model?
The DX II has internal focus motors whereas the DX requires the body to have a focus motor (which the nikon mount does not).
This is the same distinction between Nikon's AF and AF-S lines, the AF requiring the body to support the focus motor, the AF-S lenses having internal focus motors.

Hi Zeke,

Its the DX, not the DX II.
Regarding the motor: Are you sure? Because - AFAIK - the Nikon mount HAS a lens motor.

I have the Nikon Ti mount and most nikon brand lens I used worked as in the ones with AF-S FX & DX.
With the last up date.
Now with the new up date it made me make them custom Lens Calibration, when the last version did not.
I take it this was to open up more lenses?

Doing the
custom Lens Calibration it will fall few times then work.
Last one I did was the Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8 It would show up as f/1.7
I did try out the Rack focus setup has 4 focus points, I tried 2 & 3 and changed the speed. This seems to work well as long as its set first.
Hope theres a way to preset the buttons on the handle as well as the redmote.

The Nikon mount has the mechanical connection to control the iris, not the focus.
As for the DX vs DX II, the tokina website very clearly states that the DX II adds in the focus motor and that the DX requires a body that has the motor.

Prior to this beta, unknown nikon lenses used a generic configuration that let the iris work. This isn't being loaded in this version.

There are mappings available to assign button to rack:
AF: Rack to A
AF: Rack to B
AF: Rack to C
AF: Rack to D
