Hello,

I want to share with you a simple, yet amazing piece of software that I found. If you have been longing like me for a really user-friendly, easy-to-use DCP player for MAC, look no more!!! I recently acquired the new Mac DCP Player from QuVIS. It allows you to play a properly rendered DCP as easy as you would play a MOV file with QuickTime! And they priced it for just under $700...!

There are no complicated settings to mess with before you can get a stable play, in which video and audio are kept in sync, without stuttering (if your system complies with they recommended specs, which I find them basic).

I have successfully played several DCPs, generated by different encoders, without a problem. And for me, one of the BIG plus: playing directly from my MAC; no need to have a separate PC laptop, or running Windows using Parallels or Bootcamp.

Their current version plays the DCP in the sRGB color space (it auto converts the material from X'Y'Z' to sRGB with an internal LUT), which means that you can preview it using your computer monitor. We can finally save the usual $500/click fee that the cinemas charge to preview your material for just 30 minutes. So you can preview the entire DCP, as many times as you need it, after any adjustments you or your client requests.

I hope you find it as useful as I do!

Yes, they have Wraptor 3.0 plug-in for Compressor. I use it as my main DCP encoder. And it is as cheap as their player...!

I forgot to mention the fact that if you buy the encoder/plater combo, you can get a substantial discount...! I miss such option... but the investment was so worth it.

Link updated. Their homepage now has a direct link to the player.

Thanks for the heads-up!

is there also a way to make the dcp using MAC?

You can also use opendcp, shareware/free

I successfully produced a dcp at home, delivered to the cinema via an off the shelf Mac formatted HD using it just last week.

I would really have appreciated being able to view it on my monitor however, as the projected image was about 2 stops brighter than expected. Previous screenings via blu-ray were within 1/4 stop of my monitor (calibrated). So I don't know yet,. whether the exposure shift occurred somewhere during the encoding process or if it was a projection issue.

Mondo,

What I have found amazing about this player is that if you have your monitor properly calibrated, and review the DCP under the appropriate lighting conditions, you can have the assurance that what you see at your studio is pretty close to what you will get at the cinema.

Also, you will be able to check the ENTIRE DCP, as many times as you need, so you can be sure that the A/V sync is correct, as well as verifying that unacceptable artifacts have not been introduced to the footage during the encoding process. I have tested DCPs generated via different softwares, and they play without a problem.

As I wrote before, it is so simple to use. Just select the folder where the DCP files are located, and it will play it as if you will play a MOV file in QuickTime. And you cannot beat this price...

I have contacted QuVIS support, and I know they are committed to improve it based on customers feedback.

I just received an e-mail from Quvis introducing a 10 day trial version of the player! I did not have such advantage, so now you can just experience by your self the amazing, yet simple software that allows you to play real time the DCPs.

Hi Luis,

Do you have access to this 10 day trial link to the player? I can't seem to find it on their website (only found the rent or buy link). Thanks.
