Hey guys,
I hammered out a new cut of my reel last night, and I'm looking for some feedback.
I'm wondering if the almost total lack of present day 'normal' looking stuff is problematic. There is only 1 'normal' day interior shot of a living room, the other interiors are casinos, labs, facilities, etc. I talked to one producer about it (who already hires me for everything, so a biased opinion I think) and she said she thinks most people just want to see the more interesting stuff anyway, and she assumes if you can do the more stylized stuff, you can probably do natural stuff too.
I am also considering swapping out the exterior night road stuff with other shots from that sequence. The gag is that the woman is not really there, so she looks obscured and they wanted to do post slow motion to give it more of a ghostly feel (sigh), and I think those two factors kind of ruin the shot of her through the windshield since of course those kinds of story context ideas don't exist on a reel. I have other stuff to choose from, I just liked that setup of her through the window, and I liked the depth I was able to get down the road while still playing night as very dark. Thoughts? Effective emotionally, or technically imperfect so no good for a reel?
I may also have too much from one specific project, but I kind of wanted to show a consistent visual theme. Does that read? The blue streaks in the parking lot, the exterior of the facility name is a blue band, and inside the facility i put kinos in the walls (and kind of went overboard with the blue streak filter in there)... I wanted to have enough shots on there to show that repeating, consistent theme, but I'm a bit worried it just comes across as not very varied as a result.
I don't know. This is a really different reel from my previous stuff, I used to have way more normal, natural, prettier stuff, but I really do prefer working on darker stuff, and sci fi fantasy stuff, so I am kind of hoping that putting a lot of that on there will get me more of that kind of work.
Anyway, if you have 3 minutes, let me know what your thoughts are on those points or anything else that occurs to you!
