  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Cooke's

Just let you know for your DP's/Cinematographer's knowledge sort of consideration:

From T1 to T32 you just have to know what (?), when (?) and also with what kind (?) of lenses

(cine or still) it should work the best to get a minimum out of the major lens aberrations.

Available light with M-X is something like a shooting with film stock 500 ASA Vision III at the aperture range from from T1 to 2.8

that have extremely short (shallow) DoF and than you have to know the best/longest in focus

distance a.k.a. sweet spot (mostly in between the two that starting from 4.5m to 5.5m and depends on the lens)

Later you have to get some additional lighting... a natural or artificial, of course if everything is done perfect then later you are fine.

T4, T5.6 and T8 and T11+ are all kings of the most daily shooting or "heavy" lighting situations (with additional NDs, Pola or HotMirror fileters when is needed).

id love to check out the new panchros though.. as I am a HUGE fan of cooke glass on RED.

cant afford s4/s5
rehoused old panchros are over priced (ive seen some 5k less than the new ones)
I might be interested in them, as long as i can potentially rent them.. which is still a big question.

Zakaree,

instead of that try to find a cheaper old Cooke 25-250mm Cine Varotal Mk2 or Mk1 zoom.

Cooke 25-250mm Cine Varotal Mk1 on R1.

Hey Zack,

You know love Cooke lenses from what I own.

I think the bar is set at T2.1 with the Zeiss Standards.

I think Cooke missed the Mark big time here.

I would buy a T2.1 Cooke Set at $33K any day, not T2.8.

I would too...
id snatch up your 10:1 or 5:1 if i just had more PL glass...(especially in the cooke family)

sanjin.. had the 25-250 mk1 lens.. i liked the "look" wasnt stoked on the amount of breathing on that lens... it was pretty strong. a little bit of breathing doesnt bother me.. but when im rack focusing and my background image expands the entire size of the frame, I find myself annoyed... plus t4 is just too deep for my only PL mount lens.

Hi
Does anyone have experience with the Cooke Panchros here?
Mainly I am interested to know how sharp they are wide open (2.8).
And if they are noticeably softer at 2.8 then a 4 stop?
I heard they are razor sharp at 2.8 (essentially the same as an S4 stopped down) but wanted to hear input and experiences from anyone that has used or tested them.
Thank you,

BBroz

They are very sharp at 2.8, just really great lenses. From what I can tell that absolutely match s4's at 2.8.

As a note we had the new RED 17-50 on a shoot with them, and they are very very close in look as well. Just a tiny bit less warmth than the cooke's but you really have to look for it.
