Hey guys I'm looking for people with past experience on this to help me make a decision on the specs of my new computer for editing. I've got a decent budget, and hearing that Mac Pro's can handle 4k and 5k footage natively, I was thinking of finally taking the plunge. The build I'm looking at right now is as follows:
3.5GHz 6-core with 12MB of L3 cache
32GB (4x8GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC
256GB PCIe-based flash storage
Dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs with 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM each
The two options I'm thinking of doing are possibly going from a hex core as listed above to an oct-core (3.0GHz 8-core with 25MB of L3 cache), or increasing the graphics cards to a config of "Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM each".
The main thing I'm asking is has anyone had experience using mac pros to edit 5k24fps footage (the resolution and frame rate I'll likely work at the most with on these computers), and if it can support those raw files (in Premiere or not) with the build I'm looking at or if I should plunge for any of the update options.
Thanks for any input you guys may be able to provide.
