Hey everyone,

I just got my first scarlet mysterium and am now trying to get a computer to go with it. I want something that will last awhile and be able to handle decently large timelines, looking probably at a budget between $2000-3500. I'm not doing this professionally but I still want something that will work good if that makes sense. I have been considering a quad core mac pro as well as the mid-range hackintosh such as the one recommended by tonymacx86's buyers guide, with the following specs:

Does any one have any advice or other recommendations? Or would you even be able to link to other helpful articles on good video editing computers? I appreciate any help you can give, thanks,

Peter

I don't know much about hackintosh, but it would be better if you use at least 32gb of ram, also I don't about the xeon choice because having just one for that price I prefer to go for a I7, but again I don't much about hackintosh. But more ram and HD would be better!

Thanks, that's good to know about the ram. Do you mind if I ask why the I7 over the xeon?

That motherboard is discontinued and hard to find these days, your own link to it on Newegg results in an out of stock listing. The X79 platform is still viable, but I would not go this direction currently, it's been obsoleted by the X99 platform and that is already nearly a year old at this point. Same with the GTX 780 series GPUs, they are no longer in production and also becoming scarce. Now replaced with 900 series.

You don't want the Xeon CPU. It's not even compatible with that X79 motherboard and requires different ECC RAM. Take a look in the post production hardware forum area, lots of system build discussions. Many will exceed your budget, but there are some more affordable discussions.

Thanks for the advice Jeff, I wasn't aware of the post production forum but it looks like that's where I ought to be, I'll move over there and make a new post
