  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Commercial - 100% HDRx Footage (No Light )

Nice grade, really nice and some very nice framing, - but prop cans don't look cold or appetizing. Plastic around pallets looks sort of dirty/not sexy, and cans in car are obviously warm.

By the way your cinematographers' reel si one of the most impressive I have ever seen. I love your work.

It's well shot as I realize, that shooting in the car is not the easiest thing to do. But I have a bit different feeling about the grade Rob. Many shots are kinda don't have the best match. Some are too green and some are too yellow, including asphalt and the skin. In some shots skin is too yellow and in some it is too pink. But once you properly balance all your shots, skin should follow.

yes, nice stuff.
I'm not really qualified to quote on the soft drinks ad, other than be impressed that the interiors and exteriors working together are a fine testament to HDRx.

As someone who's spent 20 some years in TV advertising - None of that is under the control or influence of the DP / Cinematographer. The Director; yes, the Ad Agency Art Director; yes, Production company art director; yes. Even the comment about the grade being off - At this level it isn't the cinematographer doing the grade, and I know around here the agencies don't even ask or give input to the DP/cinematographer about grading.

I thought it looked great - and obviously since we're looking at it - so did the client… who signs the cheque.

BTW - I loved your reel.

Love it, what motion blur plugin did you use? (If you don't mind me asking)

i agree - I meant how he saved the day with HDRX and I would imagine judicious power windows - it's hard to believe that's not lit.

I didn't know what his role was - he could have been DP-director, in which case he could have made sure there were cold prop cans - and even the DP could potentially make that suggestion. For all I know this is a spec spot with no agency at all. Here in Quebec of you are a DP who is good with color grading you get that gig as a package - that happens, albeit less frequently, in other markets as well. I work in advertising often and see your point, but...

Continuity Error ... ?? OK, I give up ...

Your photography is great. :-) However, the ad lacked polish. I noticed the continuity error (after viewing the ad several times in a row) but I don't think the casual viewer will.

Is it when the woman first appears to hand a greenish can to the driver ... then a bit later, the driver drinks from a purple can that the woman helps him with ? Or something else ? I give up ...

Tx,
Serge

Strange that at opening the cans of soda are loaded and green cans at bottom, then next shot shows man loading soda, and also purple at bottom and green on top.....so soda is stacked out of order and cans started as loaded and then next shot shows dad loading.....that stuck out to me as strange.

as for hdrx....that is very nicely done and hard to believe no lighting.
