I saw this mattebox first hand a few weeks ago. It's very nice and yes, the Abel rod adapter would work just fine with it.

I gotta say that at $2250, the price point is pretty nice.... I just wish it had 19mm mounts on the bottom instad of 15mm lightweight (especially since lenses seem to be getting bigger and needing 19mm support.)

Matthew

Hi Matthew,

The mattebox comes standard with support for 15mm mini rods. However, Chrosziel offers a few different rod supports for 15mm mini to 15mm bridge plate or 19mm bridge plate:

No need to be confused. I believe Martin was simply providing contact info., whereas I simply provided a company name.

Nevertheless, even though Chrosziel has two Distributors in the UK, I would recommend you contact PAG. They have been servicing Chrosziel since the '90s and know the systems very well.

So. You guys don't do humour? Oh well, I must learn to put emoticons in.. hang on :thumbup1:

Yay! More low pricepoint gear of potential quality! Just yesterday I finished working on a music video on which we used the Redrock mattebox and it was such a disappointement. The comments I read were generally positive, but the build quality and ergonomics were unfortunately on par with their other products...

Or perhaps I've been spoiled by Arri.

When posting on behalf of the company, I like to err on the side of caution. But, for sure, emoticons help convey the mood of a sentence. :biggrin5:

So this matte box doesn't take a rubber donut and/or round filters?

Three Filter Holders - No Rubber Bellows

So this matte box doesn't take a rubber donut and/or round filters?

The MB 456 Academy uses hard rings to step-down from 130mm. Chrosziel offers several step-down rings with various diameters; including flexible rings that fit a range of lens diameters.

Adding a rubber donut with a 138mm round filter would have limited the focal length. The MB 456 Academy is designed for lenses up to 14mm even when rotating ALL three stages. Moreover, you have more control of the stages because they all rotate independently.

I see. So does that mean you are limited to using lenses that don't expand when focussing? Or is there some other solution?

Does this mean there is no way to use a 138mm round with this mattebox? Even as an option?

There really seems to be a gap in the market for 4x5.65 matteboxes with 138mm support and lightweight 15mm rods. I'd be all over the MB-1 if it had support for a 138mm bellows. Funny enough the only one that is meeting all these criteria is the $400 kock-off I got from Ebay built in India!
