  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Build

The builds came hot and heavy as we frantically fixed problems and enabled features. All that is left are the hard features to enable. We are working on the next build but because their isn't the same sense of urgency as before, we are taking our time to get each build right.

As for 4.5K mode, it is a bonus. We'll put it out as soon as we can, but it was never in any spec. It was my idea to add it. I'm waiting just as you are, but patiently. :-)

Jim
come on Jim tell the truth youre building this camera for yourself... we just benifit from it :)

Ok, I just checked in the manual, and you're right Cail...

"Note: the +48V Phantom Power output is disabled each time the camera is power cycled." (page 37)

But I still don't understand why. Has this already been discussed somewhere ? Is this some kind of hardware limitation ?

It's a safety mechanism so you don't fry a non 48V powered microphone. Because if that happened everyone would automatically blame Red for having it enabled by default....

In short, either way is going to have its detractors but the Red way means no hardware should be harmed if plugged into the camera with the default settings applied.

I've been on build 18 since the day it was announced and yes, the audio playback error is still there. Not consistantly though. When we removed the drive and plugged it back in the clips played back fine. I personally feel the inconsistancy is worse than a consistant problem. I'm not too concerned though, the RED team is well aware of this issue and I'm sure it's being worked on and will be fixed asap with the release
Build 18.

waiting "patiently" for it!

Feature Request (if not already in the next build):

When formatting new Media, can the "Formatting In Progress" Screen be a graphic overlay on top of the Live image (similar to the boot-up screen) instead of over Black?

When formatting a 320GB REDDRIVE, you are down for a good 30 seconds or so and this can many times be while the DP or Operator is trying to frame the next shot.

Also, moving the text to the lower 3rd area could help.

Thanks for listening!

Thanks Paul, at least now I know why...
Well, it's probably not the right thread to discuss this, but I still think it's a weird choice.
Every other cameras that I know of just have a switch that stays in place and that doesn't reset each time you change a battery, and that hasn't been a problem so far...

Jim you must know by now that when you are at the top of the heap more people want to knock you off.

The thing is, we customers who bought the camera are the ones that take the 'hits' from our clients. I think every item mentioned is valid if you are trying to make a camera that totally clobbers all the others.

Jim I am sure that your smart team have paid attention to what everyone has said here and the many tips you get when visiting the sets of the larger budget productions where you are promoting the camera.

To the man with his ear to the tracks, any idea when the train is coming?
