I have just received my 2 bomb EVF's that I purchased for my Epic's (still pending) found out yesterday cannot use them with the LED's on the Epic.
Anyway shooting today , so at lunch I tried them out and have to say I was so totally disappointed with them compared to my old EVF's, No menu etc
Am I missing something?
Please anyone that can explain how this is superior to the old EVF other than size, I would really appreciate it.
Also is there a kit to attach it to the element technica eye piece extension rig as opposed to an arm ?

Well, size and apparently manufacturability ... the Bomb EVF has gotten out to more people in its short lifespan than the older Red EVF had in years.

I spec'd out the Red EVF on dozens of shoots, and was able to actually get it on two shoots. Two.

Without exception, every Epic I've seen has a BombEVF available. (Actually ... I don't remember if Ketch had his when he was here ... we used the touch LCD everytime we shot anything.

Now ... as it happens I don't care about the menus and such. In the EVF all I want is a framing guide.

Where Red has dropped the ball I think is in not including two red video ports on the brain. I'm very sorry, but EVF + LCD is such a common configuration for shooting (as is two LCD's, a style I became accustomed to due to lack of original Red EVFs!) that I have to know what the normally brilliant guys at Red were smoking the night they decided one port was enough.

And no ... the i/o modules aren't an excuse. They are for other less basic necessities ... not the bare essentials.

Fortunately, I can choose a non-Red EVF, so my AC can still control the camera, and so I can get framing at the same time, even on desert shoots.

While I am at it ... when are they going to turn on the stupid HDMI port?

push both buttons on the front of the EVF than you can toggle between the upper and lower info, and if you still don´t like, and can´t get in touch with Nick or Theben, I´m also here to swap my old EVF against one of your new ones ;)

This thread puzzles me.

New bomb owners want old evf.

Evf owners want new bomb evf.

No one is happy with any RED EVFs??????
Wtf?

I have one of each and prefer the new one in every way. It's a much better picture, in a much smaller package. If you are used to an eng big viewfinder with an optic that lets you see from really far off, and you are used to keeping your eye off of the finder, you will be disappointed. If you are used to a film viewfinder, you will be pleased.

Straight talk from Nick.

Thanks nick. I trust that kind of straight talk.

David.
