We have posted a new interim release of firmware (Build 18 v3.6.4) at www.red.com/support to address the following issues.

* Eliminated camera "stall" during boot up sequence.

* Eliminated requirement to wait 10 seconds between power down / power up.

* Eliminated "blue screen" LCD / EVF symptom following camera re-boot.

* Eliminated camera "menu lock up" when connected to a consumer HDTV set via HDMI cable.

In addition we made the following operational changes -

* Modified Time-Lapse default setting to Interval (was One-Shot)

* Modified GPI B default setting to Record (was Time-Lapse record)

* Modified Audio 1 and 2 default assignment to Line Level.

* Modified audio PPM scaling and Witness Mark for 0dBu / - 20dBFS reference level.

* Modified Phantom Power logic to remain enabled across camera power cycles ( Rev B Audio hardware only)

As this is a Beta test build, the usual disclaimer about using appropriate caution on commercial jobs applies.

Please send back any comments via e-mail to Red Technical Support.

Thank you. :)

I'll go check it out...

Wonderful Jim, looking forward to checking it out. Kudos on solving the blue LCD/EVF issues, that's one of the only problems I've had with my Red.

Thanks Jim.

This sounds great. Thank you very much. If anyone installs this build right away would love to hear how the modified audio ppm scaling reads. Till now it seemed that we needed to ride the levels very high for proper level, while at the same time it was very close to over modulating.

That's great, looking forward to checking out the new audio settings.

New Build Notes

Please make sure you read the Installation Notes included with the firmware before installation.

Also note that there is an updated Operations Guide for this build on the support web site.

Great news thanks Red team....I'm still holding on to my build 16, but have high hopes for build 18 as an official release soon!

See you at Rio!

Dave

In the case, that it is not a release Build. Will it be possible to put on Build17 the Bug Fixes and getting also a new Release Build 17 before 18 is approved? Because the Bug Fixes seem to me significant, due to stabilitiy issues we see on some cameras.....

regards

Then we'd have to retest the Build 17 with changes already in Build 18 :) . Getting Build 18 to release build status is the quickest line of sight.

RED Dev Team: Thanks for enabling mic phantom power across power-ups!

The sooner you guys test this beta version of Build 18 and get us feedback, the quicker it can go to release version status :)

I understand!!!

Cheers

I've been running this beta for a number of months now (testing HDMI compatibility). I'm very excited to see it come out as a public beta, and the addition of the audio changes. It has been very stable. While I was hoping to see an indicator for the current color space (RAW, Rec709, etc), I'll remain hopeful that it will be included in a future release.

Thanks RED Team.
