So Iv'e been without my E.T Hybrid plate now for 6 months having sold it in anticipation for replacing it with new Epic specific accessories yeh yeh I know silly me :-( However I can't keep working in this compromised fashion and just need to get working on a decent set up again and accept that I could be shooting on the RED ONE for a lot longer than anticipated. So my question is should I just go and get myself another Element Technica base plate which is perfectly suited to the R1 and presumably OK for the Epic or should I hang out for some updated R1/Epic compatible plates? I can hold off a month or so if its worth waiting but otherwise I'll just get another E.T hybrid. Im waiting to hear back from E.T about new gear but i'm not sure they are making any public announcements or they might just be too busy to reply right now .
I love the new RED quick release plate which is Epic compatible but It will require an additional $700 R1 adapter and thats money I'd like to be spending on glass :-)

I am undecided between ET hybrid system and QR RED system...

What would be the advantages of each system ?

I am looking for a fast way to move from a H85 Libec tripod to a Mantis (arri dovetail ?) or Allstar shoulder rig Arri Dovetail).

Thanks

Antoine

This just came in my emails from Steve at Element Technica-

Hey Jon. We are currently machining a riser to use the Epic on our Hybrid Bridgeplates. This will bring the lens up to the proper height for 15 or 19mm Studio spacing, and additionally there is a hole pattern on the front of the part to add our new Universal 15mm LW product for LW15 support. Should be available in just outside of 1 week.

As for a more Epic specific bridgeplate, we have discussed it...but have not made any progress on it as of yet. I suspect that we will have one eventually, but it will be quite some time before we do.

Hope this helps - Steve

That one looks similar to the one made by action products.

It is the same company. Iv'e bought several action products items. Strong robust , well made , lightweight and they simply work. ( Im not affiliated) But Im a big fan of Element Technica Also so the decision has been hard. I think there will be more compatibility with the E.T products and the Red gear. E.T's R&D and ability to lead the way speaks volumes. Amazing company..Great service too. Im not a big volume customer of theirs but they have been amazingly helpfull. ( really i'm not affiliated but if speak kindly of them perhaps I can get some of their cool Red anodised prototype gear :-) lol

Dear Jon,

The ActionProducts bridge plate works well with both the EPIC and the REDone. However, the distance from the sensor to the rods on the EPIC will not match Arri matte box industry standards, so you will need a riser. ActionProducts has just finished designing a Riser and Audio-Riser, which will accommodate the EPIC into industry standard spacing. The Audio-Riser has the added benefit of Pro XLR input, which is also an industry standard.

The ActionProducts Bridge Plate was designed for this flexibility. Its compatible with ARRI Dovetails (ARRI, ET etc.). You can attach our ARRI Adapter Plate to any dovetail, then slide off the Camera setup directly from sled to the Tripod or vise-versa. Our BridgePlate can also be turned into a shoulder mount, so technically the Camera setup can go from sled to tripod to shoulder mount in any order without ever having to take the camera off the bridge plate. To turn the BridgePlate into a shoulder mount, you would need is a few 19mm industry standard rods, two Handle grips, and an our ARRI style shoulder pad to slide in to the ActionProducts Bridge Plate.

P.S. Innocinema is the North and South American distributor for ActionProducts. We are partner companies :P
