  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hello. It's my first post. I don't know if this has been brought up, but, thinking out of the box a little, I've been pondering the meaning of "pocket."

When the Red came out, it was announced that it would render obsolesce obsolete. And then came concern of the rolling shutter and its effect on the image. In order to fix the problem, the CMOS would have to be replaced with a redesigned unit. From my understanding, that's a major undertaking.

That lead me to think - what would really render the system future-proof? And how does that tie into "pocket?"

Well, what if the unit were modular and the "CAMERA" itself - which could be available in 1, 2 and 3 K formats depending on how much you want to pay -- and could also be something that, as a modular part, could come in a CCD or CMOS format - for depth of field concerns, etc. (If a better CCD/CMOS/HEAD comes out next year, you don't toss out the whole camera and control unit. Since the "head" just spits out picture, you keep the control and trade the head! And we know the path is already in place for 4K - so, install that pipeline and it will handle anything 1, 2, or 3K in size.)

Then, the recorder could be a separate unit. The control unit that might bring everything all together - and be a third "box." And when you put it all together, it might "snap" together into a long tube or cube shape.

And I could see such a system supporting a $4995.00 price tag - even if it only is 1080 camera. Wow, it would be an engineering challenge, but, then, wasn't the red for the price? :)

Okay, be nice to the new guy - I'm just thinking out loud!

Oh! Oh! Another one caught the speculating virus! It’s truly spreading uncontrollably. Takes over your brain, and then slowly takes over your entire body rendering you senseless for hours while images of Scarlet flash in front of you from nowhere, (or maybe an imaginary 4k projector!). Welcome to the fun! We will very soon now the secrets that lay behind the lady….

hi

hi

Nice first post.

it might "snap" together into a long tube or cube shape.

We have to wait untill NAB to see if that is the way Scarlet was designed.
A RED EVF on the end of a modular tube would be cool. The EVF alone would cost $3,ooo (still a bargain.)

If you want to learn a lot about RED, go to the website below.
