Hi guys. I've been on DVXuser for a little bit now, and I have been posting about this project of mine. Someone at DVXuser suggested that I post this here also. I just don't know why it never occured to me. But here it is.

Ok Guys,

So after 9-12 months of trying to put this thing together and being ignored, stalled, and manhandled by the LCD industry, I'm finally proud to mention that I've pretty much finished my LCD. (really wished I would have been able to get this thing out sooner)

Here are the specs.

LCD Panel:

Features:

The good thing about this is the image. Its really superb. The next best thing is the Angle of viewing. I really haven't seen anything with that much angle of view. Which is good for when more than one person are relying on the LCD.

Here are the first pictures. Please comment and ask questions if you would like.
Note the RGB connectors on top will be BNC and not RCA as those shown. I will fix this. I also need to add stickers to label things or possible do silk screened white letters.

Thank you.

Hi Luis,

Looks good. I presume you intend to market and sell it yes? If so how much?

Paul

Also, I presume you were unable to source a screen with 1280pixels width? Viewing true 16:9 720p would've been a major bonus. We'd be looking at 16:9 600p on this size screen, just as with Red's LCD, would we not?

Hi Paul,
Yes, I will be selling them. I'm just figuring out the battery solutions.
I'm curious, what battery are most RedUsers most interested in?

As for price, the introductory prices will be as follow.
$1250 for the RGB component only version.
$1550 for the (1) HD-SDI in/out version,
and
$1675 for the (2) HD-SDI in/out version.

As for the screen I haven't counted the exact pixels, but you are right. it should be around 600p. Unfortunately, at this size that is all that is availbable on the market. (there might be other non-for sale solutions but I'm not aware of them) This is the same size screen as the Panasonic $4,890.00 one.

Hi Luis,

Sounds like a good price.

Most Red Users would want to input using DVI I believe. This is the connection that is used with the LCD for a 1024 x 576 image. The HD-SDI's output at 720p to 1080p so the monitor would be down rezzing the image. Unless something has changed since production models went out I believe this to be true.

EDIT: Just checked FAQ: This 17-pin LEMO connects to the 720p RED LCD. It carries a 720p DVI-based signal, power and interface controls.

Might I suggest getting hold of a local Red Owner and allowing them to test it for a day and give us all some feedback. Also I'm sure the folks who'll be doing the LA Red Test (LART) would be happy to test it out for you and give it a thorough workout. There is no date for it as yet though.

Looks good. Thanks for posting it here.

Paul

Oh and for batteries the RedOne Bricks are 140Wh. If you can add in a Lemo connector people could run it directly from the camera.

Paul

Thanks for the info Paul.

If you know of anyone doing the test in LA, I'd be happy to get my monitor to it to have them take a look.

As for the Lemo connector, do you have any specs. Lemo makes tons of connectors.

And for batteries, you said 140wh, but how many volts of output and how many amps?

Thanks.
(guess I should download the manual for the red)

According to the FAQ, there are two auxiliary 12V connectors on the camera. That's probably the way to go. The FAQ says:

They are 0B shell size 4-pin LEMO connectors [FGG.0B.304.CLAD52]. They can be combined to supply 24v if your desired accessory requires it. Pin-outs consist of 12v battery loop-through [to 1A], 12v battery loop-through [to 1A], GPI, GPO.

Thanks Chris, I'll look for these connectors. I'm making a bracket on the back of the monitor that will allow it to have swapable battery options.

Thanks Emanuel. I don't mind at all.

thanks for your kind words.

As for the monitor, I'm still hoping there is someone in LA with a RED camera willing to let me come over and try my monitor on it? Any takers?

Thank you,
Luis

Paul:

Isn't is a 16pin (I counted eleven around five), you're making me worried because I ordered some 16 pin.

Can we have de-anamorphized monitoring from a 2:1 anamorphics lens?

Mr. Orange,
if you look at the aspec ratios you'll find:
Aspect Size: 4:3, 16:9, 16:10, 2.35:1, 2:1, 1:1
When I have my HVX and I change the ratio to 2.35:1 (I think also for 2:1) the picture gets squished down and seemes stretched. So if you have Anamorphized footage coming out of the camera, and set the monitor to that aspect ratio, I would think it gets de-anamorphized. No way to really tell unless I got someone in LA with anamorphized footage. (I like to test things out before I can give a definite YES)
