Hi guys...new and old! I said this on my last post...If you didn't read my last post, this is what i had to say... "Not sure if anyone would remember me...but I'm an early adopter of RED ONE from way back. Traded it in for the EPIC and I'm still a proud owner of EPIC #1938 which I call Snow White. I use to be on REDuser all the time in the chats from the start, listening in on the chats and beta testing with you guys. Then I finally made my account in 2008. I was always on here listening to Jim and Jarred till I bought my house in 2015 and also got caught up in the world of crypto. Anyway I've been out of the loop for many years". So with that said, I've been heavily involved in the crypto space since 2017 and over a year now I've made some really good friends in this one crypto community. We talk on telegram all day everyday. It reminds me of the good old days on here. I thought a lot of you might be interested in this one project. It's an underdog company much like RED was. I'm heavily involved as a community member. We are trying to bring DeFi back into the crypto space, especially with everything that's going on with exchanges lately. So the project/company that I'm talking about is called Neko. They are launching a new crypto hardware wallet called Neko Vault. I talk to the Dev team every day, it's a very exciting group to be in. The product that they are developing is very disruptive competing against Metamask and the hardware wallet company Ledger. Neko is both a soft and hard wallet, Nekomask and Neko Vault. They also have Neko Gaurd which provides full spectrum security to DeFi projects. Penetration testing, smart contract auditing, network penetration testing, phishing assessment, brand auditing and KYC services. So back to the hardware wallet Neko Vault, as I said, it's very disruptive in the industry much like RED was. Neko Vault is a state of the art never done before HD touch screen hardware wallet. I remember Jim or Jarred comparing "RED One" was like coming out with the iPhone in 1980 In the beginning Jim and RED were up against and fighting the big fish of the camera industry... With Neko, we are starting to gain the attention of the big fish hardware wallet company Ledger. The CTO has his eye on us lol Anyway, with all this said, I just wanted to share because this company "Neko" as a whole... CEO, the whole Dev team, and community, all give me the same warm feeling as the early days here. I have two Neko Vaults on pre order. The first units are shipping in a monthish. I most definitely will be filming some product videos when I get it. Anyway, I'm kinda just speaking out loud and rambling now but if anyone is in the market for buying a new hardware wallet or would like to be part of the community let me know.

This is the prototype. Final product launches in about a month. In this pic the side thats showing is the biometric fingerprint reader, the other side is the HD touch screen.

Nice to see you're a long time RED camera owner. Still seems a little spammy though.

Thank you. That didn't even cross my mind tbh... I haven't been on here in awhile but I thought that's what off topic was for? To talk about new and emerging technologies and share thoughts? I mean people in here are talking about the world cup lol I thought if it was tech related that a lot of you guys would be interested... I love RED Jim revolutionized the motion picture camera industry. RED is now one of the biggest Cinema camera company in the world. I found this group here back when the company was just Jim, Jarred and a couple others. Everyone called them a scam. Lots of hate. Always gonna have haters. I remember when Arri hacked Jims email and stole all the tech. Thats how far ahead RED was at the start. The competition will always hate. The only reason why we have 4k tvs is because Jim pushed the boundaries of the industry and changed it. Otherwise everyone thought what we had at the time was "good enough" I knew back then without a doubt in my mind that RED was going to be huge and take over the whole industry... It did... and I feel exactly the same way about Neko and everything that they are doing. I'm getting that same feeling. Neko and all of its services that they are offering will take over the whole crypto market by putting DeFi back into it and make it what it was meant to be for. Changing the standard like RED did with the camera industry. I feel it to be true. It's very rare to get this sorta feeling in a lifetime but I'm feeling it again for a second time like I did with RED. The journey that I'm on right now with the Neko team reminded me of the good old days here so I just felt the need to share... thats all.

RED was always designed "for the people" future proof, modular design. I'm not part of the Dev team for Neko... I'm just an active community member. Neko is "for the people" as well. If you look into it you will see an amazing project that will change the industry for the people and not for big corporations or big banks. 100% made in the USA as well. Like I said it reminded me of the beginning of RED and felt the need to share...thats all.

still seems a little spammy. Talking about World Cup is a little different than directly promoting a startup in a completely different industry.

BTW I don't think that inappropriately accessing (Bandpro's?) emails with some info from Jim's emails to them gave up much if any tech stuff. (happy to be corrected if I'm wrong).

And I think we would have 4K tvs by now without RED - RED certainty accelerated the 4K production timeline a little bit but 4K TVs were inevitable. As Heinlein said many years ago when the various technologies come together "When it's time to railroad, people railroad."

Dalsa had 4K well before RED (and one of DALSa's prime engineers became RED CTO). Red took a sensor from a sensor fab - added a COTS FPGA and a modified JPEG2000 compression scheme into a smaller more reasonably priced package (which BTW was actually manufactured by Foxconn).

In the case of REDONE, there were many 4K and higher resolution sensors out (i.e. 8MP+ - mostly in still cameras as the compact data transfer hardware to fit in a DSLR wasn't readily available. (Nikon D200 10mp 5FPS came out before REDONE was even announced, and priced at $1699 - one tenth of a REDONE - so RED had $15000 to work with to get an 8MP sensor and data transfer hardware that allowed 24FPS into whatever size package was needed - versus the limits posed by the well established SLR form factor ).

You might say REDONE was Evolutionarily Revolutionary or Revolutionarily Evolutionary. For that exact reason I was onboard with the REDONE the moment I walked into the booth at NAB 2006 - I knew there wasn't any technical reason it couldn't be done for $17K price - it just took somebody willing to spend a few million to do it - since the majors like Sony, Panasonic, Arri et al have much slower timelines.

The majors have huge and varied product lines that have to fit into the marketing mix (and in the case of high end cameras, they have to give time for rental houses to get ROI before a new model comes out.) Also when you are selling 150,000 DSLRs a month you can't do what RED did which was to shoot out the camera and then recall a couple months later to figure out a decent lens mount - it's one thing to refurbish 100 cameras and upgrade the next batches before they ship. It's another to recall hundreds of thousands.

Just trying to flesh out some of the possible misinformation in your post and also suggest that although RED was "sort of" revolutionary - just because some company (in one of the most controversial areas of finance - and it's hard to ignore all the negatives and real harm that crypto has facilitated) might be somehow similar doesn't necessarily take it out of the spam area.

I totally see what you're saying...agreed. I'm gonna be completely honest I never really came into "off topic" over the years, I always thought it was a chat to shoot the shit with the community about anything. When I came in here before my post I saw the world cup thread so I did think anything of it. Just now I searched through old threads and saw its mainly cinema or TV industry related. My apologies. As I said I've been out of the loop for years and when I use to be in here every day back in the day, I mainly stayed in recon, Redone and Epic. I do plan on filming the commercial or a short product video for Neko on my Epic so maybe I'll just post that in Shot on RED. I can delete this thread if it bothers you? Trust me I love this community, I've learned so much here. I came into this community 16 years ago in 2006 when I was in my early 20s. Didn't make my account till a couple years later...I was shy as hell and didn't talk much lol. I always like to learn and observe.

About the emails, you may be right...all I can remember is everyone in here talking about it and how they got ahold of some sensitive tech info. I could be wrong.

Most definitely agree about the tvs and sensors. Red definitely accelerated everything for sure! The most revolutionary thing about Red was Graemes magic that made all this possible with motion not just stills.

And I hear you on your last thoughts. Crypto definitely has a lot of bad apples and security issues...thats why I'm so passionate about the Neko project...it's specifically looking to change all that.
