A production company has hired me to shoot an interview at 1:30 on this coming wednesday and they asked if I knew anyone that did sound. I thought I'd post here to the RED forum first. Have your own equipment (tascam and mic)

the rate is $200 and probably won't even be 6 hours of shooting

We're about to find out just how bad this economy really is. . .

just out of curiosity... how much is the half day rate for a sound guy? Not that I have control over what they're paying... just curious. Stephen you make $200 for 4-6 hours of work sound like it's ridiculously low.

If I posted on craigslist, $100 for a sound guy.... I'd get some awesomely talented people with great equipment and great reels.

Am I taking crazy pills?

Then I would suggest posting on craigslist.

By the way, the only time I visit craigslist is when I need a good laugh.

Good Luck with your project!

This depends on whether there is gear involved also. around without gear here you would be hard pressed to get half a day for 200, 250 maybe, but thats a true half day which is 2 to 3 maybe 4 hours in a stretch.

But Like I tell everyone who complains about craigslist, don't hurt to ask and on the other side, you don't have to answer.

The GOOD sound guys I know wouldn't even justify that rate with a response.

You get what you pay for.

ETA, and 6 hours is a full day, NOT a half.

And that doesn't include travel time, prep, etc. Those six hour "half" days are never half and in my experience often are more than six.

Nevertheless times are hard. And as Paul says, you don't have to answer.
