Here is my workflow.

I shot 4.5 60fps footage. (raven)

I get home, mini mag to external, import the folder directly into a new project in PP.

Question 1, what sequence settings for a 1080 timeline?

2, are there any good tutorial videos for quick color correcting?

3,why are there clips AND folders with clips in my bin

4, is everyone doing the disable master clip effects, >source settings> redlog> curves for color?

thats a start.. thank you!

Since I cant get an answer on that, I will try another question...

Editing some 4.5 footage, 180/60 why am I experiencing ANY noise as soon as I get into some color?

Nick,

Have a look at youtube, type "red raven workflow adobe premiere pro" and you will get more than 400 hits.
Not a regular RED shooter so I can't help you futher, but this is a good start.

Have fun and take your time.

Hi Nick,

Regarding #3: How are you importing clips into PPro? If you are taking an entire reel and dropping it into PPro via drag & drop, then PPro will replicate the directory structure that your camera already created. This means all folders will be replicated, as well as subfolders, and all spanned clips will be imported (.001, .002, .003, etc). The stand-alone clips you are seeing are most likely very short and therefore small in size. They don't need to span. The folders you are seeing are likely longer shots and therefore larger in size. These are spanned clips and are binned together in folders. It makes for a messy experience in PPro.

One way around this is to use the Media Browser pane in Premiere to navigate to the reel. This should result in you seeing only UNIQUE clips in the Media Browser - no spanning, no subfolders. It may take a minute or two to populate. Once you see the clips, you can select all the ones that you want (CTRL+Click or SHIFT+Click in Windows) and then right click on one of the selected clips and choose Import. This action will import only the master clip for each shot, not the spanned clips. Now each clip will be unique and will be at the same bin level. You may have to arrange them in bins. I recommend creating bins that exactly match the reel name and dragging your newly imported clips into the appropriate bin.

That's what I do. Others may have a quicker/more automated approach. Hope it helps.

Regarding Q1: You want a 1920 by 1880 time line, you can also go in to the RED sequence settings and select 1K and a list of possible frame rates and aspect ratios will show up.

Regarding Q4: Provided you did not change your camera setting, ie white balance, ISO I would recommend disabling the master effects and batch converting the clips. However I would recommend only changing to color space and gamma curve, at the moment Red suggest that you use Log 3G10 and REDWideGammutRGB to give you the most flexibility in your grade.
In regards to grading I would suggest using Lumetri instead of the source settings curves as it makes it far easier to create a unified grade across all of you clips.

Hope this helps!
