Hey! I have a client who is installing a large video wall and wants us to develop some content for it. I'm trying to figure out the best format to match it. The size of the screen is 36' X 10' 6". Its looks like 2.39:1 wouldn't be wide enough, what do you think would work best?

Also, I own an Epic and can shoot 5K but may even hire out an 8K camera should we need the extra resolution for a screen this size. Would 5K be enough or should we consider a higher resolution?

Thanks in advance!

Hello, it would be necessary especially to know the resolution of the screen and the distance to which the public will look at it to be able to pronounce it!

I can try to find out the resolution. The distance would be variable. It would be a big screen in a public area so the distance could be anywhere from a couple of feet away (if one choose) to hundreds of feet. It would be on the side of a building just above eye level, maybe 6-8 feet high off the ground so people could walk right next to it or be across the street.

My main question, what format best matches the screen size?

It sounds like you should shoot in WS and frame everything a little wider because you will crop out the top and bottom a bit. If you can get the exact aspect ratio then you can create a guide within a monitor (or go old school and place tape on the monitor to the exact aspect) while shooting.

As for 5k vs 8k, we need to know the resolution of the screen. If the screen is only outputting 1080p, then there's no use in filming 8k.
