  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Got a PNG image sequence that is 30ps (1024x576) that is for some reason 30ps but the project it orginated from is 25fps. Usually I just use Andrew Kramers FPS converter in after effects but since I moved to CS4 it doesn't work.

Been looking all over the net and can't seem to find any help.

Although its not RED related I know you guys are knowledgeable chaps...could do with some help here!

How can I successfully convert 30fps to 25fps for smooth playback and integration back in Media Composer.

If the clip's proper frame rate is 25 fps but it's playing at 30 fps for some reason (the footage is running too fast), then all you need to do in AE is to use the "Interpret Footage" function to tell AE to treat it as 25 fps. Then put it in a comp and render.
If 30 fps is its proper frame rate, but you want to convert it to 25 fps, then create a 25fps composition, put the clip in it, and render a 25 fps movie (or sequence, or whatever).

The PNG sequence was 30fps but I was treating it as 25fps completely oblivious. Then when it was played through i realised it was at 30fps. My interpreting the footage just re-adjust playback obviously, I needed to convert it to 25fps as the project is set to 25fps. I have had to go back and do another sequence. Which was the issue because I didn't have access to it.

Thanks for your thoughts though. Will have to post to Andrew Kramer and see why I couldn't get his AE plugin to work in CS4.

I'm doing it with copressor, like Phillip Bloom shows it in a toutorial for 5dII on his website but the results aren't always good.
Then I heard about Shake doing the best job on it.
But I never heard about Kramers Tool.
How does it work?

I just saw kramers toutorial about his plug in on his site videocopilot
At the end he explains that he just linked normal AE effects in the plug in .
So you would have to be able, to do it without his tool.
Just take a look at the tout.
But could you please share your experience with this technik.

Am I missing something here? How can a PNG sequence have a frame rate? It's not video. Just call it whatevr framerate you want (ie. Use the interpret footage command).

Unless you mean that there was some original footage that was 25p that you want to make 30p (or vice versa), in which case it being a PNG sequence is a red herring, I suppose. In that case, your best bet would be Twixtor, Kronos (included with "The Furnace" plugin suite), or Shake's, After Effects's, or Nuke's built-in optical flow retimer (I didn't hallucinate the o-flow retimer in CS4, did I?).

Cheers.

Finally I found out and am very satisfied with the results.
All that Kramers plug in does is simple maths to find out the speed change. So you don't need to use it
Interpret footage to your wanted frame rate.
Pull it into a new comp.
Apply timewarp effect.
Type in speed change using this calculation:
input frame rate devided by output frame rate times 100
Now tweak your settings as you like them
