So what is the biggest hurdle that software developers will be facing when writing programs for transcoding R3D files (when SDK is released of course)?
Is it GPU, CPU, RAM, combination of all three? With the amazing amount of processing speed out there, and oodles of RAM that can be installed, I'm a bit surprised by how long it takes to process RED footage. No slight against Red or Assimilate meant here, as I'm just trying to understand what issues stand in the way of a high quality, fast, and affordable software transcoder. I know the old saying about cheap, fast, and good pick two, but in this day and age I'd hope we could get all three to process r3d files. If someone could shed some light on what it takes to process these files, it would help me put things into perspective and maybe help me set my expectations for what we may see in the future.
Please, no attacks on current solutions. I just want to know what is possible from people who are in the software development realm.
Thanks!
