Hi all,

anyone could make me a Lemo power cable for a Redbyte Decimator I could use to power it from the Red One?

OR

a D-Tap power cable to power the Decimator? In this case, I'd need a D-Tap "doubler" as my D-Tap plug is used by my View Factor Impero/Inclino setup...

Any suggestion welcome! Your price will be mine.

Thanks

I made some mods to redbyte downconvertors.

Email me on my mobile jackmosor@gmail.com

Cheers,

Jack

Hello Lewis, I think the best way is to power the decimator from the D-tap and for the VF gear just get a v-mount plate and a couple of cheap v-mount batteries,or even get a quik plate and use your second battery , with a mounting bracket and run this separately , Its more convenient this way.Or other way round.
Second option and cheaper is to just get a 12 vdc cheap battery, get a couple of them
and just make a cable for the decimator.
I wouldnt mess with the reds power.
A lemo custom cable will be more expensive than this option.
I know you will ad some unwanted weight but it will free your mind from errors, and I heard some prety bad stories.
My 2 cents

Hi Constantine,

you've got a point about powering from the Red, although it seems crazy that we shouldn't do this, as it is supposed to be made to power accessories right?...

Anyway, D-Tap is the way I think, but adding a battery sounds too much for me... I'm not Schwarzennegger, and handheld is going to kill me! I already have a Switronix hotswap with 2 batteries, a 3rd one is really not an option! And the second D-Tap plug on the Switronix is unaccessible...

Aren't there any "d-tap hubs" on the market?

Found interesting cables here:

And this to power the Decimator:

Or this one:

Anyone used those yet?

I use the dtap splitter constantly. I have had all four plugs filled many times.

Arri UMC
AJA 10md
Canatrans
cinetape

done.

All powered off the onboard red battery no issue. Now you will chew through batteries much quicker.

Is it possible different cameras and batteries behave differently? I've tried to power the AJA, a Bartech FF as well as other accessories seperately on the DTAP, and my camera shorts every time. It never shorts otherwise.

Regarding power from the accessory ports on the back of the Red (as opposed to the DTAP), I've heard form multiple sources never to do that.

Sounds like there's a problem with your battery plate.

Yeah, so it seems. It's just really weird: why the hell put power sockets on the camera if we can't use them or if they're not reliable? Sounds like a waste of space and money...

You should make a Decimator cable kit for the Red Mitch... :auto:

I don't get it how gear makers are so sloppy in providing accessories?! They sell that great and cheap converter, and it comes with an AC plug??? It doesn't seem to cross anyones mind that on a camera, you need a D-Tap power cable, and that you might need a Multitap power sockets since there are great chances you are using it with a Steadicam, a RF video tap or a wireless follow focus, etc...

It's like no, you buy it, so you have to guess, what cables, how, where... I just spent the last 2 entire days trying to get all the parts for the damn thing...!!! :banghead:

We do, but you had posted that you'd found a solution already.

I have extensively searched for a solution, on your website among others, and a fellow Reduser has offered to sell one to me they actually make especially for the Decimator.

I posted what I thought was relevant, but it would be great to benefit from your experience with such device. What would you recommend Mitch? Do you have a link to a dedicated product/cable or kit?

I still think Redbyte should put some effort in selling accessories for their converters... I contacted them 2 days ago and nothing... :(

It's not up on the website (I'll work to have that changed). In the meantime, feel free to PM me with your email or just email me directly and I'll make sure you get the information.

New Abel website coming soon!

It's not that you can't power things off of the aux / gpio ports on the R1, it's just that the circuit protection on those ports will trigger when using bigger items with more draw. The ports have a 1 amp - 1.5 amp (different people have had different findings) threshold. A down converter will often be fine. I have powered micro forces and cinetapes off of the aks. I have even been able to power a preston with only one motor functioning off of the aks port. (however in the case of the preston if you really pushed the single motor it will trigger the protection)
