Hi All,

I've been using double system sound since my Scarlet arrived . I have heard comments about microphones hooked up incorrectly being damaged or destroyed. Can someone explain to me what (NOT TO DO). Can anyone explain how Scarlets are causing this to happen? I would not want to damage or destroy an expensive piece of equipment whether mine , friends or rental .

Thanks for any advice,

I think this might only be a concern if you're going from a mixer/recorder or something off board that has the ability to choose between line-level and mic-level. What does the manual say? You've got me second guessing myself now.

Nope not possible.. Scarlet's Brain only accepts mic level inputs, but you won't cause any damage if you send line level (it'll just clip)

The only thing I can think of is someone has enabled the camera'a +48V Phantom power option when using an unbalanced Microphone....

Most likely problem would be hooking up a self-powered mic and turning on phantom power.
(only turn on phantom power if you're using an unbalanced mic that requires phantom power -- so
if you're using a line-out from a recorder for example, do not turn on phantom power).

Another potential issue people have mentioned isnt in the hookup per-se, but in the connection
type. The Scarlet is using 3.5" mini jacks instead of XLR connectors. It turns out that if you pull
out or insert those jacks while power is running through the connector there is a potential short
that could happen. So only disconnect the connections with power off. I've not heard of any problems
like this happening, but I recall people complaining about that possibility.
