Looking for a seasoned editor who can create an amazing promo out of almost nothing.
S/he needs to be proficient in photoshop, illustrator, after effects and any 3D software.
Please send your reel or your best work, showing off your skills to: producer@decoupagefilm.com.
The pay will be reasonable.

Shapour, when you find somebody good, let us know.

who used linkedin.com?

Is it realy that hard to find Will?

As someone that works in promo EVERY DAY, and has done for a decade, the answer is YES. Great promo editors are hard to find. I've worked with 1000's of editors over the past 10 years (that's not a joke), and only about 50 would I call GREAT.

Right now, I think GREAT editors are a scarcer commodity than great shooters/DPs.

An editor can't fake it. Either they have the experience and the talent, or they dont...the gear can't save them.

I would consider myself an editor & compositor first and a photographer second. And you are absolutely right, Nick. There's a rhythm & flow to editing that you don't know until you've done it for years.
By "Promo", what are you referring to, Nick?
We do all sorts of marketing shorts, featurettes, extended spots and creative projects for companies -- doing one right now for GE Oil & Gas -- I guess promo might be more accurate. Just curious what that term meant exactly.

Nick, can you recommend a few of the greats you've worked with?

THanks.

I think he's talking about something with pop, like a TV trailer, something under two minutes.

The goal is to have the viewer buy in and get excited about the material.

When I say promo, I mean TV PROMO. I mean :15, :30, :60, :90, and 2:00min spots that promote a show for air. Its an entire industry within the TV biz. Generally speaking, IMHO, promo editors some of the most talented editors in the business, by far. The pressures, the time constraints, and the technical demands put on them make the BEST promo editors ROCK STARS in my eyes. I have the honor and pleasure of working with these dudes every day.

For those of you who don't know, I'm a PROMO PRODUCER by trade. That means I sit in edit with these hyper talented peeps to cut these pieces. Conventional wisdom dictates that...under this intense pressure...TWO brains are always better than one. I generally manage the client and rough cut on Media Composer on my laptop...while my editor bangs away on the Symphony in front of me. Together, we craft these spots as a team, and try and make air. That's what I mean by promo.

Wanna see a sample of a GREAT promo? From one of the great editors I speak of? Check this cut out, by my business partner Michael Coelho, one of the best editors I've ever worked with. Its the LAUNCH spot for BOARDWALK EMPIRE, which he cut in THREE DAYS (insane). He'd been working on the campaign for two months, but when...last minute...they decided they wanted a DARK spot to launch the series...he pulled this rabbit out of his hat:

Will I can, but your best PMing me. However, a lot of editors in my world don't know RED workflows that well yet. That's actually WHY Astronaut got formed (my production company). I teamed up with two of the best editors I've EVER worked with, because we all had a passion for production, and for RED. The idea of combining our post experience with the limitless power of RAW and RED...was too tempting to pass up.

That being said, It's never occurred to us to be a resource to the RED community, but I guess that's something we should consider.

Anwyay, if you are seriously in need of editorial, PM me, and we can talk. If we can't help, I can guide you in the right direction.

But right now...I need to get back to my edit (no joke, I have a spot that makes air in the morning!).

Looks good Nick.

I sent you an email, but I'm a freelance editor/vfx supervisor based out of Atlanta. You can see my work and reel here: Andrew-donoho.com

Check out Walter Murch's "In The Blink of an Eye". It was one of the best things I ever did for my own editing...brilliant book!
