I was watching a show tonight and I noticed they were using a 4 x 4 open frame with four 4-foot Kino tubes taped to each side to create a diamond-shaped DIY fixture. It was hung between two C stands with a point of the diamond pointing up.
Camera was shootig through the middle of the open frame. KInda like a giant ring light. Made a cool diamond-shaped glint in the actor's eyes.
Is there a name for this rig?

i think its called , soon to be copied and used . great idea,

very accustomed to seeing the diamond shapped rig as an on-dolly rig to surround camera on music videos... sort of a super eyelight..
also seen cross shaped ones used in vampire movie or two...

Ha. That's great. Maybe an Isreali film can make a Star of David with 6 Kino tunes and make that symbol show up in the actor's eyes.

So do any of these rigs have a name?

Matt: thanks. I've got those. Those are fancy. The diamond rig I saw was way stripped down: bare lamps taped to the open frame with some 1" gaff tape about 4 iinches long, barely enough to hold it in place. Just the single harness on the ends and then tying into a ballast via a single (green) kino head cable. Super simple.
