  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- Dragon Sensor Upgrade Program begins

Jarred, I'm an early adopter and just upgraded my Epic M to dragon, does my discount apply to that ?

Ok I went through the whole thread and still have not found anywhere that it explains how much I have to pay for an upgrade. At the time of my purchase, I bought an Epic, and they said that I would receive a free upgrade to the dragon (because I spent 50k+), they said it was going to be a 5k value. Now of course that phrase is removed, and my incentive for spending much more than I should of now becoming more of a lie to get me to spend more than reality. How much does an upgrade cost me.

I see that the price of my Dragon upgrade is listed in British Pounds.
Would be so glad if this means that I don't have to ship the Epic to the US.

(and get into another fight with customs. My EPIC was at one time classified as climbing equipment.)
Cheers,
Jochen

Can anyone tell me if Dragon will shoot ,actuall proper anamorphic mode, like the 4:3 Alexa or will it still crop and make the focal length longer than its designed to be.

Is a 50mm as wide as a 25mm

Any help o this would be appreciated.

someone else has asked that also and I don't think has been any response yet..maybe they're still figuring this out

i was suprised no ANA mode in 6K spec lists then Jarred stated they forgot the put it.i think they ll state those detailed specs in soon..Dont worry
with 6K ANA mode it ll give you more area than Alexa 4:3 i guess (am i wrong)

I was wondering the same until I checked the FAQs. Here you go:

IS MY EPIC ELIGIBLE FOR FREE DRAGON SENSOR UPGRADE?

If you purchased a collection or group of items as a single order that included 1x EPIC Brain and totaled over $50,000 USD in invoiced value between 4/16/2012 – 11/1/2012, your EPIC is eligible for free DRAGON sensor upgrade.

Yes, you are wrong. The sensor height of an Alexa 4:3 is 17.82mm tall, Dragon is 15.8mm tall... Standard academy anamorphic aperture size is 18.59mm tall, so both the Alexa and the Dragon represent a crop factor on anamorphic lenses... Alexa, however, is much closer to the film gate size than Dragon... However, Dragon is now over 3mm taller than the Red One was, which is HUGE. I think the height of the Dragon falls right in a nice "sweet spot" for the lenses... Traditionally anamorphics really struggle with the outer edges performance-wise...

The only draw back is getting a wide lens!

Hope so

why is there no 16:9 option in 6K and 5K yet? is that also just misisng info in the tech specs, or is that really not there??

I hope there is a 16:9 option in 5K and 6K. My life got easier when we got 5K HD.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but will Red Pro Primes cover the dragon sensor at 6k with no vignetting?

I couldn't find it in this thread... But... Will the dragon still record 300 fps at 2.5 k like the epic? (it may be 2k... not sure on the specs... too lazy to look it up)

SO SEXY !!! Like being in groupsex...

I guess this is Jim's final and inimitable response to those who called 'scam' and 'vapourware'; build the cameras right on the NAB floor!
