  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- Dragon Sensor Upgrade Program begins

Hi Jared,

How can we know if we are :-Early adopters can pre-order the upgrade for $8500 ($1000 credit when invoiced)

Or should I ask my Bomb Rep?

RED ONE is #6340

my EPIC X is #943

Thanks

Antonio

Your not an earlier adopter, people who paid a deposit before any camera had ever shipped are!

Yes, also wondering about the HDRx.. Being able to have a track with shorter less motionblur has proven to be very helpful for me. And would be even more important with better light sensitivity...

I'm pretty sure Epic Dragon won't be the same price as Epic X.

I just bought the Epic X for $19k. The upgrade to dragon from epic x is $9500. The price for the Epic Dragon is $24k. See my dilemma? I would have bought the Dragon for $5k more and not got the epic x if I would have known.

no HDRX in dragon...

we all knew this from months ago dragon was coming in NAB..

Yeah but what I didnt know is that the price for the dragon was going to be almost identical to the price of the epic x. I thought it would be substantially more.

Some people paid substantially more for their Epics (before the big price slash).

At least there are trade up options :)

I'd have held back and bought an Epic X at the half price if I'd have known... I'm sure others would have made different purchasing choices too.

However, you have a great camera with the Epic and have been putting it to use for a month - so, at least that should cover some of the price difference.

I don't think Rded can keep everyone happy 100% of the time - but, they're running a business... and at least we have upgrade options rather than having to buy a new camera.

Yeah I am totally thankful for red and understand. I know it sucked for the people who bought it full price... just kind of sucky is all. Love red though and super thankful I have the ability to upgrade.

Yeah that is kinds stupid. If you buy an Epic for 19k, then invest almost 10k into it to get Dragon, then you'll still only be able to sell it for 24k, which is an immediate 5k loss. You don't even have to use it, and yet you lose 5k. Whats up with that? Whoever is figuring up these prices is high on something...

i think they ll say 14-15K $ for Epic-MX and finish Scarlet line in this year. The thing that i dont understand is Jarred said they cant share any video footage now but in first post (BRENT edited) they gonna upgrade cameras today..So why not posting video if they have Dragon cameras already?
thought this upgrade thing will start end of this year didnt think this gonna happen so fast..
So we can upgrade Scarlet to Epic Dragon without paying cash right now?

I think they've got the hardware nailed down but are waiting on Color Science before showing results.

Just like buying a car, it's a business asset it depreciates!

Not quite. The Dragon X at $24K will not be available for quite some time, probably a few months, so that $5K difference is what you pay for being part of the elite group that will have access to the new sensor just before it becomes available to everybody else. Exactly what happened with the Epic M and Epic X. Those who are willing to pay the premium are, in theory, able to put the camera to work right away and exploit being one of the few that have the new sensor. Whether it is a practice I like I'm not sure, but that is quite irrelevant. And once again, why is it that people constantly complain about resale values??????? IF you're so set on selling your gear, don't buy it in the first place, rent it when you need it and that's it, but this constant complain about losing money on resale is maddening really. Everything loses value the minute you buy it, and if you can't make at the VERY LEAST the value of what you paid for it back over the time of ownership, then you should never buy the thing in the first place.
