  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB shipping update

What about that V-lock battery, folks?)

Brent and Jarred, you guys crack me up! Not sure how either of your wives put up with your shenanigans, but at least you are having fun! Love your products, your attitude, and your openness. Can't wait to see you at the show and say hi!

LMAO. You guys crack me up. Still an eventful NAB though. Side handle has me all drooling currently. Really wish I was going to NAB! And by the way, haven't I told you two that you rock? I've been sitting in the dark watching all those impatient rage comments about the RAVEN. Maybe it didn't feel too good reading some of those posts but I want to remind you that you guys are doing one hell of a job making the best gear.

cool. BTW, tell Kelly that I found her long lost reptile:

Sure, yield will get better as time goes on. This isn't abnormal though. If you remember when we made Dragon 6k, the first batches started out not much better so it's not like we are scratching our heads wondering what went wrong, it just takes time.

Our continuous transparency has risk associated with it.

The more updates we give, and more dates we give out, the more opportunity there is for something to go wrong and break it. It's why most companies just shut the fuck up even when there are delays. When you make everything from scratch, it's not just the hard things like sensors... even one screw coming in that is painted the wrong color can have catastrophic consequences.

Good thing is that we are getting insanely good at this stuff. We have learned a lot over the years. We are hitting our dates even though our products are a multitude more complicated. We now just have to figure out the keeping up with the demand part. Increasing the price of things like the Raven next week is a simple thing that hopefully will help with that, but in the end we are still just a little in Southern California trying to make cool things as fast as we can :)

It maybe dangerous but it gives us a realistic idea of how things are going. Thanks for that! When did yeilds get better for this 6k sensors?

8K VV sensors are still a bitch to make... and are still rolling out in single digits. Just to give you another sense of that complexity, We can fab 300 8k sensors and only get 2 or 3 perfect ones we deem worthy of going into the bodies.

'In totally unrelated news, we're now cranking out 297-298 raven sensors.'
;) Or at least I hope all the rejects are finding a home where they can live out a happy life as a 4.5k sensor.

Everyone that had faith and already put in their deposit for 8K is safe. It's was the deal of a lifetime...

I have to say that when I put in my 3 orders last NAB that I felt I was buying in on the deal of my lifetime. Thank you guys for doing this incredible, crazy, smart as hell jump into the future.

In my opinion, this is the best announcement Red could have made. Brilliant actually. Seems like there is tremendous pressure every year now to announce new cameras and quite frankly I love hearing that the emphasis is now on getting them cranking out of the factory, working with 3rd parties to accessorize them, and some of their own accessories to sweeten the pot. Much respect for not given in to the temptation to hype some future camera that's not even close to ready. I'm hoping Blackmagic learns their lesson and does not announce a new camera (okay maybe Pocket 2 would be acceptable).

Enjoy NAB everyone!

I knew its was the moment it was announced... I was never Negative... But knew for fact that the deal on that first 10k for the 8k sensor was a true STILL of a DEAL!!

Normally NAB wipes us out all our teams for a good 2 months before and a month after as we scramble to make a bunch of shiny new things to show the world in our booth. This year you'll see a new monitor, a new module and a new battery and a few other little things from us, and that is it. A few months ago I promised you guys that we would use all our lines for manufacturing cameras instead of the distraction of making a bunch of new prototype things and we have lived up to that promise.. and that focus has been incredibly beneficial.

3rd parties also really help here.. as they work hard to bring you accessories more of our lines can be on the cameras. Our booth is all about them this year.

If you had no new items to show yourself, a completely new ecosystem of innovative 3rd parties would still be the biggest news of NAB. User-driven innovation is by far the most interesting, and I know that many of those 3rd party companies are driven by passionate RED users. So kudos to you for changing the game yet again. And you are perfectly positioned now to show how that ecosystem works in concert, without trying to drown out others with your own new announcements. Brilliant!

Are there any Weapon 8K cams out there to rent? I have an upcoming commercial project where the added resolution would be a plus. Probably at least a one week rental maybe two.

nope.. just in hibernation.

Committed to catching up remember, stop tempting me :)

I honestly don't see where can Epic-W fit at the moment. To me Weapon MG is the Epic-W, but then again, I have no idea what the Epic-W is, maybe it's a high-speed Phantom killer from RED :)
