I mean yeah you are right Jiri, I have a R1 and a Scarlet but I still use baked in video from time to time. Not every job can afford the time and data space, but other than that, for serious narrative work, RED is pretty amazing. Get an r3d and grade it in RCX. It’s pretty amazing how many ways you can push it. It’s just so nice to have the flexibility.

Thanks Mike.

For some on this board it will always be "my way or the highway" = in translation: either you get a Red or go get a bottom of the line video camera. Nope, none of the other cinema style cameras are any good and if you are not with us you must be against us.

Like you, I think the principles and philosophies of Red are awesome - but there are markets and types of productions that are well served by any number of the other cameras you listed. There are many parameters that each individual user has to take into account and that's how we all make decisions. Unlike many here who had to sell their car or admittedly spent time to "save up" pennies to get their prized Scarlet, others just get the camera they need now and when a suitable project comes that requires the specific abilities that (in this case) one of the Red cameras can deliver, they go and get it then. Plain and simple.

Also, at the peril of being attacked, for some - including myself - it was also the reliability issues and other parameters like the lack of XLR audio with Phantom power that might mean "joining the Red revolution" just a bit later, once these have been dealt with. Which I am sure they will, in time.

There, I said it - fire! :)
Jiri, there's no problem using the tools you feel best suit a particular project or market. That's just smart business. Just like any other part of the process such as postproduction. I mentioned in another thread, when you ask the WHY it often leads to the HOW. We do not currently have a one size fits all industry. Think about it, there are projects that have next to nothing in their budgets that will shoot on iphones or FLIP cams. There are projects destined for quick turnaround where quality is last on the list, but time and cost are at the forefront. There is such a wide range of content, that it's very important to apply your knowledge and experience to identify what will best get the job done.

The C300 is a good camera. It's not up to me to determine if it's priced right, unless I am in the market to buy one. Instead, I embrace them when they have been chosen for a particular job and I try to get the most out of it. That goes for any camera I need to use.

If you come under attack, it's probably because you're on a RED forum. The threshold for discussing other cameras is pretty low and understandable. The focus here is to discuss RED cameras.

I will say this though in terms of reliability issues. Keep in mind, there is quite a range of experience level here. You have to take that into consideration when you see "issues" arise. Sometimes they are legitimate camera problems but probably just as often are user error. Things like lack of Phantom power, that's a fact. No argument there.

For all you guys still up... Keep an eye on RECON tonight at midnight.

Thanks Jarred. Great event tonight in Vegas. Couldn't be there in person, but watched on the web. I'll keep an eye on Recon.

The price we pay for not being in Vegas right now. :-)

I was happy that the Reduser party was streamed though, that was cool. I felt like I was there, from the comfort of my own home.

No kidding! I need to get some sleep too but I’m up....with the wallet open.
